Considering Biden’s age, I feel there is a good chance if he wins in 2024 that we will have President Harris before 2028. Let’s say that happens, how would you all feel about it?
I know there is a lot of hate on her but I’ve heard her speak 3 times and I thinks she’s the most presidential out of the 4: Her, Biden, Trump, whoever is Trump’s VP. I think the hate comes from her not being a good extemporaneous speaker and that the Administration has put her in some no-win situations like controlling the border.
I think she would make a great President, but what does the Dope think?
I liked her more than Biden when they ran against each other in the primary. I still like her. Biden has been much more effective than i expected, and i hope we can keep him. But i have no qualms about president Harris. I mean, no one’s perfect, but she’s pretty high up among the plausible contenders for president.
Not bad. I liked her more on paper, and less the more I heard her. But she is certainly competent, non-insane, and not clearly overly beholden to the wealthiest. Relative youth/gender/ethnicity are definite advantages.
I’m a-okay with a President Harris. And I think Biden has been a terrific president (and that he’ll likely survive his next term). Hell, I’d prefer a President Harris to any GOP alternative.
I believe Biden will win a second term but not make it to the end. Harris will become president.
And that’s OK. She’ll face massive opposition from the haters in both parties, and vile slander from the neo-Nazi right, but that will buttress her standing on the left.
How well she does is a different matter and depends almost entirely upon who controls the House and Senate. Another reason it’s so desperately important to insure that the Democrats win both houses in 2024 and 2026.
Harris was my first pick among the Democratic contenders in 2020. She’s no Obama and struggled through that campaign, but she has the experience and temperament to be a good executive. Her main problem is she’s a work-horse and not a show-horse–she takes her Vice Presidency seriously and is not chasing publicity.
I would have voted for her in the 2020 primary, but she had already dropped out before I had the chance.
I hope Biden gets a second term and completes it in good health. He’s doing a fine job as POTUS.
And without having a real reason for my feelings, I’d like to see our first female President be elected to that job. Maybe it’s because I’d like to think this country isn’t as sexist as I think it is.
She would have been okay, but she would have lost vs trump. That’s the issue with all the “young” candidates put forth- they’d all lose to trump. Biden can beat trump.
I liked her better than Biden in 2020 primary, so I will be fine with that.
Biden has a pretty good chance of making it through all 4 years and hopefully he’ll be fully functioning unlike Ike, Wilson & Reagan for their last couple of years.
He’s old, it is not unreasonable, but hey, Trump is almost as old and in worse shape. More likely to die in office if elected in my opinion.
But again, I think Biden is likely to survive through 2028.
I agree, I disliked him for the Nom as he was so old, but he has accomplished a lot with a very tough Congress and a Pandemic to deal with.
The fact that he was born in 1942. The fact that he is visibly aging, from having difficulty walking to forgetting names and words. The fact that the presidency requires abnormal amounts of hours and effort for any person who tries to do the job to the fullest. The fact that I carefully hedged my statement by saying Biden “will not make it to the end” rather than saying definitely he will die; he very well might need to resign for health reasons. There is no precedent for that but the penultimate Pope similarly broke precedent and as a devout Catholic Biden might pay heed. Putting those facts together leads me to the belief that Biden may not be president on January 1, 2029.
And why else would this thread exist? Does anybody here seriously think that if Biden lives to the end of his term, Harris will be the party’s candidate for the 2028 election? There will be a long and vicious intraparty fight for the nomination; Harris is not guaranteed a win - she is not even the favorite. I’ll take the field over Harris. The only way she’ll ever be president is if Biden stops being president.
That’s not Republican propaganda; that’s the prediction of a life-long Democrat.
An 82-year-old man will, on average, live another 7 or 8 years, depending upon your actuarial source. Someone in good health with excellent health care likely has even better prospects.
Whatever the stresses of the presidency, Biden has shown only characteristics appropriate to his age, with no reason to suspect dementia.
I can’t say I was ecstatic to vote for John Edwards as VP in 2004, although quite happy to for John Kerry. But, aside from that, I’ve been happy to vote for every Dem VP since and that includes Kamala Harris.
She’d be fine as president and I’d love if she toned down Biden’s protectionism on becoming president.
I was born in 1982 and I’d say Biden is probably in better shape than I am. His parents lived to be 92 and 86, and they certainly didn’t have access to the kind of medical care he does. He could probably make it well into his 90s.
