And you know the MAGA trolls would call her a DEI hire, and that she somehow orchestrated Biden’s death so that she could become president.
The fact that he was born in 1942. The fact that he is visibly aging, from having difficulty walking to forgetting names and words.
All of that is GOP false propaganda. Biden has always been gaffe prone, and had some issues with speaking due to a speech impediment- stuttering. If you watched his State of the Union speech, you would see he is , spry, and not even a bit senile.
Does anybody here seriously think that if Biden lives to the end of his term, Harris will be the party’s candidate for the 2028 election? There will be a long and vicious intraparty fight for the nomination; Harris is not guaranteed a win - she is not even the favorite.
Of course there will be a Primary fight, that is how Democracy works. Harris will be the favorite to start, but that doesnt mean she will come up the candidate.
Biden is older. He’s currently 81 to Trump’s 77.
In calendar years, yes. In apparent aging- What_Exit was absolutely correct.
Ringo Starr was born in 1940, and he is still going strong.
Considering Biden’s age, I feel there is a good chance if he wins in 2024 that we will have President Harris before 2028.
You really think he’ll keel over dead, or go all covfefe, in the next four years?
My mom is 97, and she’s sharp as a tack. She’d be good presidential material, except for the fact that she’s slightly to the right of Vlad Tepes…
Yeah, I’d be totally fine with Harris being president. As was said before, she’s no Obama. But you can’t win the jackpot every time.
She’d make a decent president. I am still opposed to her anti-weed/anti-drug policies though, and her stance as a prosecutor.
For what it is worth, Biden backed down from his anti-weed policies and I expect Harris would also. More than half of the voters are in favor of legalized marijuana so I doubt Harris would buck that.
Gallup is placing it at 70%, so I suspect we’re not too far from removing the Federal laws for Pot.

Even those that identify as Conservatives are 52% in favor. Liberals at 91% and Moderates at 73%.
Nice this is an issue where Education doesn’t seem to have a large effect. But I was surprised the Midwest is the most in favor of the 4 regions.
If Biden wins, I think there is a 20-25% chance that he doesn’t finish his term because of health reasons. In that case I expect Harris will be a mediocre but not disastrous President and will lose the 2028 election.
She’d be fine. I think she’d be unlikely to be reelected in her own right.
Biden’s in considerably better health than the average 82 year old and has access to the best health care possible in the nation. I expect him to survive his second term and for some years after.
If he doesn’t – I think Harris will do her genuine best to work for the good of the country. I may not agree with her on all the details of that; but I’m likely to agree with a lot of it. And I don’t know whether she’ll be better than average at trying to do an impossible job – but at least she’ll be trying to do it, not to undo it.
I like her- she’s boring ![]()
I like Harris just fine. I only wish that she would have been appointed AG rather than vice president, she wouldn’t have sat on prosecuting Donald the way Garland did. But she’s smart, hard working, and shares my values. She’d do a good job.
I think part of the disconnect here might be that people aren’t disagreeing on the numbers, just on what “a good chance” means. Like, I don’t know the actuarial tables, but let’s say that Biden has a 90% chance of lasting the next four years, and without any health problems severe enough that he needs to step down. You can look at that as pretty good odds for Biden… but a 10% chance of the VP taking over is still definitely in the realm where we should be seriously considering the possibility.
As to what I think? I think she would be competent. And that counts for a lot. I’d rather have an absolutely amazing President, but “competent” sounds pretty good.
I’m fine with it. (White 73 year old male democrat.)
I was born in 1982 and I’d say Biden is probably in better shape than I am. His parents lived to be 92 and 86, and they certainly didn’t have access to the kind of medical care he does. He could probably make it well into his 90s.
He could, indeed. But he might not. Unfortunately, I doubt that I’ll live to see if I’m right. Maybe I’m wrong about that, too. But the signs are there for both Biden and me.
All of that is GOP false propaganda. Biden has always been gaffe prone, and had some issues with speaking due to a speech impediment- stuttering. If you watched his State of the Union speech, you would see he is , spry, and not even a bit senile.
You mean the part of SotU where he called Laken Riley Lincoln Riley? Great speech otherwise, and I’m not being sarcastic. He blew all expectations away and his numbers have been inching upward ever since, one of the reasons why I think he will win in November.
But his gaffes are almost as numerous as Trump’s. I recognize them personally. Most of them are mere “senior moments” but they scare the hell out of me. Not as much as the idea of Trump as a president, of course, but those are separate issues.
Harris will turn 60 just before the election, so 64 just before the 2028 election. That means she is the last of the baby boomers (usually grouped from 1946-1964). How the Gen Xers will howl if another boomer gets the presidency into the 2030s.
I’d rather have an absolutely amazing President, but “competent” sounds pretty good.
It is an impossible job, so nobody can be absolutely amazing except to their deep supporters.
Harris would address the nation saying that she was going to finish the job Joe started, and have the same priorities. And she pretty much would — at least through 2028.
But his gaffes are almost as numerous as Trump’s.
That’s an exaggeration if ever I’ve heard one.
I have zero issue with Harris being president. In fact, I’d vote for her. I think Biden is massively, almost overly, qualified, so I prefer him. But Harris would be great.
I still think Hilary Clinton was one of the very most qualified candidates to run for president. Shame she will never be president.

True. But I hope to hell that she never takes it into her head to run again.
Moderating:

I knew this was going to be a hijack as soon as I saw it. And it is.
True. But I hope to hell that she never takes it into her head to run again.
Both: Let’s drop it now, as well as anyone else who may take it into their head to relitigate this discussion in a thread that has nothing to do with Hillary Clinton.
Sorry!
