The dude’s about to be making $400k/year, rent-free. I think he can buy a plane ticket.
So we can be rest assured if Obama were a Doper he’s not gonna post here …
He can certainly afford it, yes. The question is whether it’s a good idea for him to do so.
Wouldn’t that be the House Speaker’s plane?
He used his campaign plane to visit his grandmother. Seems logical to do it again. The SS would cover part of the cost if they rode along.
You are totally wrong on all counts. For no intent and purpose is Obama the POTUS now. He is the President elect, which means he doesn’t have a thing to do with the executive branch of the government yet, job-wise. He should attend his grandmother’s funeral in the same manner that any other Senator does. He should not be afforded any of the protection for trans-Pacific any greater than a President elect is entitled to, which is standard FAA and Secret Service protection. The current POTUS has a country to run, irrespective of how well you think he is running it. What if Joe Biden has a family emergency? Will George W have to tell Obama that he can’t lend it? After all, in the event of a misfortune to Obama, Biden would be, for all intents and purposes, the POTUS, before Obama even takes office!
He has Secret Service protection.
I hope it’s safer than it was when they made a forced landing in St. Louis after the “pilot of the plane was having trouble controlling the pitch of the plane”. As reported on The Aviation Nation website: FAA Caught Lying about Obama Airplane Drama. Or the ABC News report they referenced: FAA Tapes Reveal Drama of Obama Jet Incident: Audio Contradicts FAA Account of “No Emergency”. Even Fox News found it worthy of mention: Obama’s Emergency Landing More Serious Than FAA Suggested.
The Name of the Plane the PotUS is on:
Can we clear this up, please?
If it’s an air force plane it’s Air Force One (which is the most common)
If it’s a marine aircraft (usually a helicopter) it is Marine One
If it’s a navy aircraft it’s Navy One
If it’s an army aircraft it’s Army One
If it’s a coast guard aircraft it’s Coast Guard One
Here’s the one you all missed: if the PotUS is on a civilian airplane, such as a hypothetical Cessna mentioned above, then it is called Executive One
There’s nothing to clear up since no one is debating the name of the aircraft used by the PotUS. Plus, Executive One was already mentioned by bump yesterday.
No. Doing so is inappropriate, and there are plenty of planes available.
Would it be NASA One if he goes up in the Space Shuttle?
Dunno if they’ve worked out the protocol for spaceships yet, but NASA One would seem reasonable to me…
But what would it be if he were in the space-shuttle, while it’s piggybacked on an Air Force 747? Huh huh huh? (Air Force 1/2) +(NASA 1/2)
Correct-o-mundo Broomstick.
Just because don’t see the refuelers land, or the fighters, or the cargo planes, or the transports. That doesn’t mean they aren’t up there.
Completely wrong. So, no.
I suggest you read the Constitution.
And I suggest you really just relax.
I was talking about affording the future President Presidential-level protection.
Other readers have convinced me that it can be accomplished without using AF1. We’re just having fun, now.
Dude, you have totally got to calm down and stop listening to all those wacky neocon rumors. The President-Elect is not an evil agent planning to steal the shuttle for Hugo Drax and as we all know, there’s no other reason to be in the shuttle while it’s being piggy-backed. You’re just howlin’ at the moon with this kind of question.
He’s CINC of the armed forces, right? Should it be anything but a phone call to the High Panjandrum In Charge Of The Air Force?
“I want Senator Obama and family, with their protective detail, flown safely to Hawai and transported to wherever they want to go. Make it happen.”
