Apparently this is a very thorny question. I don’t pretend to understand it all, but I wonder why a release form couldn’t be created, especially for soldiers in combat whose emails would be desperately wanted by their families if they’re killed in action.
Anyway, this is what started me thinking about it.
What’s your opinion?
My only worry about that is if the person in question was also secretly writing to a lover his SO and family would otherwise know nothing about. Imagine finding out your loved one is dead and then also finding out he was a cheating bastard. Hmmm… I’m not sure anything good would come out of having that kind of information.
I feel that if he had wanted his parents to have administrative access to his site, he would have left instructions for them in case of his death as he knew it was entirely possible he could die any day due to his occupation.
I know I wouldn’t want my email open to any of my family and I’m generally a very open person.
Transfer of accounts shouldn’t just be assumed.
