In re-reading my anti-abortion books, I realize that the authors are talking about the lack of newborns being given up for adoption. Apparently their view is that pregnant women should be forced to continue their pregnancies in hopes that they will give their newborns for adoption, and that way older, less desirable children can languish in foster care  .
BTW, if you mention gay adoption as an alternative to abortion to the anti-abortion crowd, they go ballastic. It’s okay to have more babies for adoption if they are adopted by staight, religious couples.
It’s a system for the benefit of children primarily not for potential parents. So fertile or nay if you can look after a child, provide a loving environment then I can’t see why you should be restricted.
My Uncle & Auntie moved to Washington, USA, about ten years ago and have been involved in this kind of program ever since. They’ve now adopted three children who were born to pregnant drug addicts. They pay the medical bills for rehab and the pregnancy; they get to keep the baby.
I’m not sure if they prevented an abortion or not, but that would be in keeping with their religious beliefs. The question there is ‘Would the three mother’s had abortions if left alone?’
I find it hard to criticise this practice when all they’ve done is give three children much better odds in life, but something about it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
I think it’s the risk of exploitation such systems could create. Church or no church, there are ruthless asshole everywhere and I hate the idea of a desperate young woman being pushed into someone else’s agenda just to fulfil someone else’ desire for a child.
Who’s to say these young women couldn’t have carried their children to term, cleaned themselves up and become great mothers? Just because the odds of that are low does that mean the members of this group can bulldoze young women into giving up their children? Women who are probably feeling desperate and trapped?
Right. Despite claims of the altruism of people in the adoption system, most of them are in it to convince desperate pregnant women to give up their babies and fade into the woodwork. The amount of cash some of these middlemen make is outrageous, and anyone who thinks they are doing is solely for bringing newborns and adoptive parents together is deluded.
