I guess that’s a stupid subject line because I’m already concerned. Oh, and, the subject of said concern is my sister. Ok, a couple of months ago, I realized my sister developed a strange habit (if you can even call it a habit). When ever she was in the washroom, she would switch the fan on and off a couple of times. Now, my sister’s always been a bit “offbeat,” if you will, so I didn’t really think anything of it. A short time later, I witnessed another bizarre behaviour. For instance, if she is sitting in a chair and then needs to get up to go somewhere or get something, she would stand-up, sit down, stand up, sit down (you see where this is going) and then after maybe 3 or more times she would finally leave the chair and go to her desired location. The most recent bizarre behaviour she has been exhibiting is the repeated opening and closing of her bedroom door. I don’t know what it is, but I feel that something is just not right. So, my question is, am I being overly concerned? Should I just chalk this up to one of her quirks? I don’t know…I’m confused as to what I should do…? Sorry if I’m rambling…I just really love my sister and I want to help her if she needs it…I just need advice–from anyone. Thanks.
It sounds like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) to me. This sort of thing can range from quirky behavior and not a big deal to totally debilitating.

I’m not a doctor, but it is possible that she has OCD – Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Why not try talking with her about it? There is medication that is often very effective for relief of the commpulsions. If I had that disorder, I would certainly want someone to help me.
If she doesn’t want to talk about it, don’t force her. But begin documenting all of the repetitive behavior that you see. When your list is sufficiently long, talk with your parents. But let your sister know what you are going to do. Either she tells or you do.
Then stick to it!
