Should I be trying to fatten Thunder up?

We’ve had him for about a month now, and he’s still way to skinny. Meanwhile, Shrodinger is most definitely fat, and Conan is starting to lean toward pudgy.

Background- Thunder was an abandoned kitty that my mom brought home. His previous owner, after an unsuccessful attempt to give him away, just threw him out and refused to feed him- hence the sknnyness. He’s a very active kitty- about ten months old and full of piss and vinegar. The other two are over a year old and starting to lean towards sedentary. We’ve cut back on the amount of treats Schrodinger and Conan get, but I’m still concerned about Thunder being underweigt.

Should I be trying to fatten him up, or should I just feed him normally and let nature take its course?

It depends. Has Thunder been seen by a vet? A vet’s really the only one who can say if he’s too skinny. Also, a vet could test him for worms, etc. re: your other cats being too fat, do you leave food out for them all day? If you really want them to lose weight, you ought to just put food out once in the morning and once in the evening. Most dogs and cats, if there’s food out, will just keep eating it, regardless of hunger.

I do think it’s wonderful that you took Thunder in to look after him. The world (and all the strays in it) needs more people like you!
