I have heard some of the local bartending schools do walk you through the info necessary to get your liquor handler’s permit but then again so would reading a book.
I know a 40-ish woman who: wanted a “fun” job; was seriously looking into going to “bartender school” because she thought it would give her an inside edge AND that this school was going to find her a nice bartending job in a ritzy section of town; was confident she could easily pay her rent with all the great tips she heard she could expect from customers; and she would really only be available to work on weekend nights.
There was so much wrong with this plan! Thank god she found other employment.
My only other bartender story is our 60- something neighbor worked for 15 years part time at a neighborhood dive. The no-smoking law went into effect and business dropped like an anvil off a skyscraper. Sometimes he had no more than five or six customers in a whole evening. The bar owner gave up, sold the bar to a woman who promptly fired our neighbor and replaced him with a pair of big tits in a tight sweater. Oh, and she had grand plans to remodel the whole place, start serving food, put up big screen TVs on every wall like The Big League…well, it’s been 5 years now, I drive past the place every evening, have been inside once in a while, and nothing at all has changed. The big boobs change every so often, but somehow the parking lot is still always empty.
The Groupon expired so the question is moot for now. But even just for fun if it came up again I might do it. They also had a $55 one day crash course that might have been fun (also Groupon price).
