Should I listen to this Jandek guy?

I was looking at the Wikipedia list of unusual articles, and I found one on “Jandek.” It says he’s a reclusive musician who is very prolific. Evidently he has a huge cult following.

I can’t find any of his stuff anywhere online. Is he good? Is some of his stuff good, and other stuff bad? I imagine that even if most of his stuff is unlistenable atonal garbage, if just 1/10 of his stuff is good, that would still mean he has five good albums.

So, can anyone fill me in?

I searched out some of his stuff out of curiosity, and yes, it sure sounded like unlistenable atonal garbage to me. From what I’ve read, that’s pretty much all you get from him, no matter which album you listen to. But the bizarre nature of his musical career (if you can call it that) is rather facinating, in a “David Lynch movie” sort of way.

I know that there is a documentary out there somewhere about him, they did a screening of it at my local left-wing commie coffee shop. I didn’t go so I can’t vouch for it…but still. he sounds kind of interesting.

I had forgotten all about him. I am shocked that he is still aroud. We had a couple of his albums when I was in college radio in the 80’s. Most of it is noisy garbage but there is the occasional near gem.
