Should the internet shut down at 12 and star back up at 7 ?

I dunno, Gremlins?

Off to IMHO.

You know what else would be cool? If every time you logged onto the Internet, you got one of those countdown leaders, like on old school movies. You know, with the sweeping second hand, where if the kids were giddy the whole class would count along. That would be cool.

The internet is borderless. Whose national anthem are you proposing to show? If we put it to a vote the Chinese will win.

Or maybe the countries could take turns and one day it’s Botswana’s and the next is Burundi’s and …

None of your fancy-schmancy big city test patterns for us country folk, nosiree. Our transmitters went off right after the national anthem, and we got snow all night (sssssssss). And we liked it.

(Interesting factoid I learned: when my wife lived in Tennessee (early 1970s), they played the US national anthem at shutdown, and Dixie when they fired up the station in the morning.)

The best way to get the white dot is to turn off the TV.

When a broadcaster shuts down its transmitter, the white dot (if it happens at all) is very brief and immediately overwhelmed with broadcast snow.

The white dot of the electron gun cooling down after the deflection coils have stopped only really occurs when you power off the TV.

So that’s what you really want: you want to turn off your own internet. You can do that any time you have the discipline to reach up and turn off your router.

The rest of us watching the network equivalent of the late late late show (and enjoying it, thankyouverymuch) will keep enjoying our sleep deprivation.

If I wake up at 2 am from a nightmare, I MUST be able to access Wiki immediately to find out if there are real spiders that large. From a mental health perspective, NO, it should not be shut down from 12 to 7.

You don’t want the drunks leaving the bars when they close, then drunk surfing the internet do ya? Someone could get hurt.

How does finding out that there are spiders that large help you out, mental health-wise?

Yeah! And they should ban cookies, too, because I miss my waistline!

It’s always between 12 and 7 somewhere, so I think it’s a good idea.

It has been scientifically proven that masturbation can be successfully accomplished using only the power of one’s mind. Amazing, but true.

Unless he’s a method actor.

No hands? Impressive.

So if you shut off the internet after 11pm, that’ll take out all the cellphones too, because they use Internet Protocol. Also many ATMs.

Are you trying to make us broke and uncommunicative?

Mental note: look into editing Wikipedia article about spiders.

A bright white dot on your monitor. Geez, read the OP.

Well, maybe you could keep a towel handy…

Oh, sorry, I thought we were still talking about masturbation.

I’m guessing the OP’s point is to enforce bedtime and keep people from late night surfing. But one time zone’s night is another time zone’s day.

And even in the same time zone one person’s late night is not another’s late night. For some early risers, even on typical schedules, that morning cut off means things like not checking email/new/etc before work either.
