Should the Malware/drones story have been made public?

I heard on CBC radio news that US Military Drones have been hit with malware. My first thoughts are why are they telling us this? Do you report a leak in your battleships hull, that the fuel for your tanks is contaminated with water? I think that this should have been kept on a “need to know” basis.

The release of the news gives out more than its surface information seems.

  1. That drone technology is vulnerable to this sort of thing.
  2. That who ever did it was succesfull.
  3. Provides support to the “anti-drone” people out there.
