I’m not sure why this thread got resurrected, but those folks who are taking aim at PaulFitzroy’s comments, here, should note that

  • his comments are a couple of weeks old

and

  • he was already admonished by an Administrator regarding those comments (in another thread).

Barring his re-entry to this thread to repeat his rather over-the-top remarks, I think we should treat them as dead issues and leave them unremarked, from this point

Now, as to the OP: why in the world would anyone turn to the Mob for help? In the last few years, even the FBI has been able to disrupt the Mob.

Typically the Italian mob is business only not wanting to get involved with politics unless it relates to favorable business conditions for themselves. The reason the old guard from the '60s wanted to wack Castro was because of the casinos that he shut down in Cuba. Not big political issues just dollars. Other than Nevada it would be about 20 years before more casinos opened in the US. They didn’t need casinos just for the legitimate profits but for money laundering of illegal gains.

The Russians maybe a little more political. The Asians probably more business like just like the Latino gangs. Alot of drugs and human trafficing from the Asians/Far East mafia. Even when the IRA was in full bloom in the '70s/'80s many of the killings were more based on business issues versus political issues.

But that wouldn’t stop any of those folks from selling arms to the “wrong” people if the price was right.

It is harder for outsiders to penetrate this Al Quacka group due to the fact that the CIA/FBI/NSA et al didn’t see the writing on the wall in '79 (Iran) and start to actively recruit folks on the ground from then on in these Muslim countries. Everybody was still freaked about Cold War to realize the issues farther out. Heck the going idea was to give them weapons to fight the USSR in Afganistan.
