Cecil’s column says “. . . a 2010 study of subjects in Japan, where bidet usage is common, linked regular warm-water cleansing with the aggravation of vaginal microflora.”
I am curious (there is no link to the actual study, so I can’t look it up myself): does this study address the possibility of inadequate drying? Keeping that area moist will definitely contribute to yeast infections - does the study really suggest that it is the use of the water in itself that is causing this problem, or is it possible that it is actually a lack of thorough drying after?
Most Japanese toilets have hot air blowers built in to dry you, but of course it’s not perfect there is still some dampness. In South East Asia where the “bum gun” is ubiquitous they use toilet paper to dry off after using the water from the bum gun.
So if the higher rate is unique to japan then yes I’d suspect it’s from incomplete drying.
Hello, well if you think to give up toilet paper, you need other method to clean up and dry up your ass )) so untll you didnt find any other opt you still have to use it))
Every bidet-quipped toilet stall I’ve used in Japan has toilet paper available as usual. Even after using the bidet function, I always do a final wipe to dry using paper.
I don’t think it is a paper shortage, and they haven’t even tried toilet paper yet.
