How about this: Have both, and then post the latest Weird Earl’s on Twitter when you do an update? See, it’s the best of both worlds!
Yeah but just because someone doesn’t want a Twitter (or Facebook) account doesn’t make them a de facto Luddite or an idiot.
I’m perfectly aware Twitter is, and it’s fine. I definitely get the utility, especially in fast-breaking news stories.
But I already get a *lot *of both personal and business texts, emails and phone calls coming in on my mobile devices every day and choose not to add to that barrage of chirps, tweets, and other notifications. Some people would rather get updates on their own schedule by checking a website or forum, rather than get yet another, often irrelevant, notification.
That said, the reasons Ed gave in the ATMB thread made perfect sense, and I don’t have a problem with that. I’m not anti-Twitter; it’s just not something I personally want to engage in.
I didn’t say you were a luddite – what I SAID was, have both. And then, you could ALSO post the Weird Earl’s on Twitter. To draw even MORE to the site. Yeesh. So those who want to check the twitter feed could see it there, those who don’t could check it out on the front page.
Easy-peasy.

YES!
Everybody for Weird Earl’s, vote early and often!
- Just kidding about the “often” part, that would require sock puppets! But “early” is always good.
Well, it looks like Weird Earl won’t be coming back, at least not to the main SD page. But I present you with what is hopefully the next best thing: The Ongoing Weird Earl’s Thread
I gave it my best shot. Asked where Weird Earl’s went, started this poll, then started the Weird Earl’s thread for people to post links. Sadly, after a couple of days, there are no new links. I guess it’s just not the same as seeing it on the main SD page.
Or maybe it just wasn’t as popular as you thought it was.
Thanks for trying, Siam Sam.
I vote yes.
More than one-third of voters actively want it restored. I’d say that makes it pretty popular.
Let’s discuss this. As of this posting, 75 out of 203 want it restored, yes, just over 1/3. By the usual definition, not a majority. A minority of posters who voted want it restored. That’s not especially popular, it seems to me.
Furthermore, that’s 75 out of 5223 active SDMB posters, as of this posting.
75 divided by 5223 is 1.4%.
So, 1.4% of active posters voted to retain Weird Earl’s.
Still looking popular?
Eh, its a plurality.
But hey! I concede defeat and am getting on with my life. It may take some therapy, perhaps years of it, but I’ll struggle through.
Well, true.
Need some whiskey? I could send you some…
Single malt, please.
You got it!
