I also think you did the right thing. Being straightforward and laying out the facts gives him less weasel room than pretending it is common knowledge without a definitive source. As a friend who has seen two of his good friends marry people he felt were unsuitable for them, and was proven right to some degree in both cases, I have fought the battle to lay my feelings on the table or not more than once. If I had the kind of hard evidence of willful deceit and extremely dangerous behavior that you had I would have come out with it as well. Unfortunately my feelings were just that, feelings. They could have gone either way(and in one case, still can). I’m reasonably sure I’m doing the right thing by keeping more mum on my own feelings in my case and I’m pretty sure you did the right think in acting on the evidence in yours.
