Shouling Barnes has died

Very few of you, probably, have ever heard the name. I know I’ve mentioned her in passing on a couple of occasions.

Shouling Barnes, later Shouling Barnes-Paul, was the widow of Bill Barnes, the son of Florence Lowe ‘Pancho’ Barnes. (I know you know that name.) Dad knew Bill and Shouling quite well. He was in the FAA stationed at Fox Field, and he leased his two airplanes to Barnes Aviation where I learned to fly. I’d only met Bill on occasion, but I saw Shouling quite frequently. She always greeted me with a big smile, and ‘Hello, Mr. [L.A.]!’ A diminutive lady, she seemed to have enough energy for two bodies. She was quite a lady.

Shouling came to my father’s memorial/family reunion. I’d always hoped to get down to Lancaster to say hello after I moved up here. I’m sorry to have missed her memorial.

Fair skies and tailwinds, Shouling.
