Show me your RV/trailer/5th wheel/camper!

I was supposed to go to Borneo next year but I don’t see that happening for the next couple of years, at least. So I bought a small travel trailer instead so I can go on my own little trips.

I love it! It’s so cute and small (7’x15’) and has everything I need including a shower and toilet and a loft bed that I don’t have to make every day like dinette beds. I’m a total noob though, so it’s a learning experience for sure.

What’s your tow vehicle? You’ll need to get comfortable maneuvering around with the trailer.

My niece and her husband are in the process of converting a Nissan NV3500 high top into an RV. It’s been an education…

Darn! No pictures! Pretty much a standard Lance cabover camper, but I made a couple cool mods to it and the truck. Camper is 12’ and hangs over the end of the truck, so it makes getting the spare difficult (but possible), so I rigged up a pretty cool side-mount spare that sits very comfy under the overhang on the passenger side. Got another spare mounted out back, for a total of three. Did that for a trip up to the Arctic Circle, expecting a flat or two. Other mods are killer sound systems in both the truck and camper. A Must! Wired so the truck isolates and maintains the RV batt when the truck is driving. Rooftop storage. New mattress that allows for the best sleep of any bed I have access to, it seems. I sleep like a rock in this thing!

Water line to the toilet broke. That’s a bummer. Been too lazy to fix it since I won’t use the crapper. Too much trouble to dump it. I just go Rambo.

That got TMI real fast, didn’t it?

Tent camper here, but have been thinking about when that will no longer be desirable.
FloatyGimpy, how much does that weigh?

Brian

We might like to get one but he’s 6’8" tall. We rented one for a long weekend. He just doesn’t fit.

I’ll be towing it with my Jeep. I am pretty nervous about learning how to tow/maneuver/park with it. My cousin (who helped me pick this trailer) said I should first just hook it up, pull forward a couple feet and then back it up a few times to start getting comfortable with it. I have some coworkers who’ve also volunteered to help me with lessons.

I don’t remember exactly (it’s on the sticker inside the trailer) but I think the dry weight was something like 2300 lbs.

Yeah I’ll definitely be getting a new mattress. The one in the loft is about 3 inches thick.

I’d post pics of mine, but I keep getting strange errors.

“The image you’re uploading is too large. The maximum is 10 megapixels.”

So I shrink it some and try again…

“The image you’re uploading is too large. The maximum is 5 megapixels.”

How far down this rabbit hole must you go to upload an image? It’s just a camera pic I uploaded to the MyPictures folder.

Tried again with an even smaller file. Got a message: “Sorry, but you can’t embed media items in a post.”

FWIW: I’m using the “upload” icon in the reply window.

Our Jeep Grand Cherokee can tow up to 7,000 lbs and we considered getting a trailer.
But instead we had some foam cutouts to make a comfy bed in the back.
The setup is simple, quick, and comfy.

What do you do about ventilation? Just leave a window open? But then what about bugs? Somehow put some screening?

Brian

Because I’m determined to make this work, regardless of whether anyone still wants to see my camper. :sunglasses:
Third time’s the charm…

That looks just like the one I rented last year. It got me really wanting a trailer of my own but I didn’t need anything that large. I assume the bathroom is at the back by the back door? When I was camping with that behemoth, I had a bath in the teeny tiny tub with that back door wide open to the forest. It was delightful!

Here’s a video of one just like mine. 2010 Pleasure-Way Excel TS:

Nice! Very fancy!

Being here out west I haven’t had to worry about bugs, but yes I’m figuring out a screen solution. On hot days I have a small fan.

That’s quite a rig there, @pullin.

Nah, this one’s a mid-bath model. The bath is a walk-thru between bedroom and kitchen/LR. Not a good layout for families w kids, but great for old retired couples like us.

Thank you! We downsized to that from a longer one. I love to show the old one when I get a chance, it took quite a bit of welding and wiring to get it all to work. Here’s all 67 feet of it.

Wow @pullin, that’s quite a setup. I don’t think that’d be legal here in CA…? Just a guess. One of these summers for a vacation I’d like to rent a nice trailer and give that a try. We’re not sure if we’re ‘trailer people’ for our road trips but it’d be nice to try it out. But with my JGC (Jeep Grand Cherokee), of course we couldn’t do a 5th wheel, but there are decent trailers that I could pull and give it a try for a few weeks.

We love it. It’s compact enough (20’) to take it anywhere a regular van will go, which is important out on the coast where many beach access roads explicitly forbid RVs. The only drawback is storage, especially for bedding. We leave the bed made up, rather than go through the hassle of trying to stuff everything in the small cabinets every day. The front passenger seat swivels to the rear, so when we’re eating or reading, one of us sits there and the other on the bed. If we were to need to haul more stuff around for some reason, there is a 10,000 lb hitch on the back. The rig is fully contained and has AC.

This was mine. Donated it to the Animal Shelter back in 2003. It was sitting way too much of the time, and disuse > decay.
