Not been there. Don’t want to go there. Read too many stories about how people will never be hired for jobs because of what they posted there.
I was on Facebook, and initially found it interesting. My request to join came from a former student, and over the next year or so, I contacted and was contacted by many former students. It was great. But after a while, the requests and links got to be too much, and I bailed. I found many of the links to be very superficial and self-absorbed, and the policy of sending me all sorts of unrequested links to be intrusive and maddening. So I quite several years ago. Too bad that it worked out that way.
This, plus I don’t even have a cell phone. I do have a TV.
I don’t have a Facebook account, nor do I use Twitter unless I have no choice ( I don’t have an account, and don’t like the interface. Plus I hate the name.). Nor have i ever used Livejournal or MySpaces or any of that sort of thing. Also, I don’t have a cell phone either.
I have a Facebook account, only because a LiveJournal friend kept pestering me, saying I just had to be on Facebook. Set up the FB account, really *hated *the look of the place (does it still look like a web designer upchucked on the page?), but getting set up, figuring out who to friend, etc. took enough of my limited spare time and energy that I didn’t have anything left over for LJ either.
So I wound up with accounts on both, but being active on neither.
Not on facebook or twitter (33yo female). As if my life isn’t complicated enough. If a potential employer ever wants to know why I’m not on facebook, I’ll explain that I don’t have a computer at home and no smartphone, so I’d have to use my work computer, and you don’t want me facebooking on company time, right?
(SMDBing on company time, on the other hand…)
With things like Facebook, the users are not the customers; they’re the product.
Of course, google works the same way…
24 year old guy, not on facebook. I was wondering about it, a couple of years ago, because I never got invited to stuff, was losing ‘friends’ and facing exclusion from certain cliques, but decided I’d been making a stand for so long there was no point joining. The people I actually care about contact me in other ways anyway.
Just what is that facebook stuff, anyway?
