I gave my daughter the first season SNL for Christmas, and we watched the first show tonight. They did a parody ad, driving through town in a van with a loudspeaker telling everyone – “Show us your guns!” People are pulling guns out of purses, pockets, even a wedding party and a little old lady on a park bench.
But none of us could remember what the original ad was for. Anyone know? What were we supposed to show them?
We wondered about Underalls. I think there was a Show Us Your Underalls ad but we weren’t sure if it involved someone driving around with a loudspeaker.
I remember Lark cigarettes – red pack, I think – but I don’t remember an ad like that. But I’ll take your word for it!
Slightly off track, is there anyway to figure out where that commercial originally came from that was on the video? As in, where would I go to find other commercials from that time period.
If you go to You Tube and type “old commercial” into the search bar, it’ll come up with a bunch of commercials–some of them from the era you’re searching for.
By the way…I just did this, and I looked at quite a number of them. I was surprised when I clicked on an old black and white Rice Crispies commercial, and damned if I didn’t know all of the words.
I went as far as page 37 before I quit, and there were many more to go.
