Do any of you listen to the radio in the shower?
It occurred to me today that shower radios are something I’ve only seen in cartoons.
I’m an avid radio listener, but only outside of a shower.
I’m pretty sure *The Simpsons *only included that scene for the “no soap radio” gag.
I do. Not incidentally, my shower radio is built into my shower mirror, which I use to shave in the shower.
bought my Dad a Tasmanian Devil shower radio a while back, mostly for the kitsch value.
I have been known to have music on in the house, or even in the bathroom, while in the shower but not specifically shower radio.
Wasn’t this also a Seinfeld bit from when Kramer was living in the shower?
He installed a garbage disposal in his shower and prepared meals there while bathing.
(I already had the link since I was actually about to make a joke about that at my own expense - since I shave in the shower, I was going to say that’s next on my list to integrate into the shower routine. :p)
Yes, I have a shower radio. I have it tuned to the local AM news station. I like to get some news and the weather report during my shower. I listen especially for transit news – delays on the subways, mostly. And if it’s going to rain during the day, so I know to bring an umbrella with me.
We have one - it was one of the few non-clothing items my husband’s ex-wife sent him from his old house. I rarely remember it’s there, however, and I think I’ve turned it on only once or twice. He uses it, though; he’s one of those people that can’t stand to be without television or radio on, preferably in every room of the house no matter which room he’s actually in. It’s like a sports bar in here sometimes.
My brother and I each got one one Christmas when we were kids. I’m sure mom was just looking to fill a present quota. But we used then for many years! They were analog so we kept them in our respective rooms, tuned to our stations.
I actually just bought one for myself fr my birthday less than a month ago! I realized that not having a radio in the shower was keeping me from showering during baseball games and prolonging my bedtime. So now I shower in the 4th inning and get to bed by 11. (yes I am a grow up)
I got a decent one from amazon, like $40. Didnt want to take my chances on a cheap one.
I used to use one, but then it got to be like in the car- I was constantly turning it to a different station if a song I didn’t like or a commercial was on, and I was spending more time changing the station than I was showering. So I quit it.
Yes. Tuned to AM news. Used infrequently now that the novelty’s worn off.
Not in the shower, but in the bathroom I have an iPhone speaker dock that I use to listen to whatever audiobook I’m “reading” at the moment. I listen to music too if the mood strikes.
I have a standard radio in the bathroom. I listen to Morning Edition on NPR while brushing my teeth, shaving, and showering.

Well it is actually an ipod dock, though it is mainly music on the ipod, and the whole 20+ podcast series on Folkways Music from Canadian Public Radio. I love the way they use the whole piece they are discussing instead of just little samples. Got me back into purchasing Folkways/Smithsonian music again =)

I really highly recommend it, if you are interested in history.
I have used one for years, I listen to the news on weekdays, Car Talk on Saturdays, and a jazz program on Sundays.

Here’s my recommendation for just radio. If you want to listen to your iPod, this isn’t it.
Ha, I was going to recommend that exact same radio. I have one in my shower. Great reception, digital tuning, and the batteries last forever.
