Shows you always watched for one reason

I recently caught a rerun of “The Rifleman” and that reminded of when I watched the show regularly as a teenager–but only the first minute. Why? Because of this awesome intro. Then I’d switch to another channel. Did you ever watch a show (or part of a show) just for one element?

I’ve watched the dojo scene in the Matrix over 100 times in the theater. I was working in a theater when it was released and would stop in to watch it while I was doing my rounds.

Inadvertently, I usually watch the intro of CSI to listen to the song, then change the channel because I’ve seen all the episodes in syndication already. I also like the opening montage for Law and Order SVU.

After a fashion, I watched The Equalizer just for the title/theme music. I was a little kid, and never really paid any attention to the show… but I’d always watch the intro before/while going to bed.

I used to watch the Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman series in the 90’s just to stare at Dean Cain

If the CSI Miami trailer comes on I’ll watch just long enough to hear the corney as crap proclamation David Caruso gives, then I’ll change it. I have never, ever watched the actual show.

Let’s just say I never watched Sabado Gigante to brush up on my Spanish.

All the time, usually along the lines of “that’s what my wife wants to watch.”

I used to watch the rather lame “jiggle” comedy “Too Close For Comfort” in the early 80s because the actress playing one of the daughters (Lydia Cornell) was, to my 16-year-old eyes, hot. Hmm, maybe that’s technically two reasons.

I (and thousands of other Canadian children, no doubt) used to watch The Mighty Hercules and Rocket Robin Hood on Saturday mornings because:
(1) Saturday mornings are for watching cartoons, and
(2) we only got two channels and there were no cartoons on the other channel (just the farm report or some bullshit)

I guess that’s two reasons, technically.

Heh, I used to watch it to see Terri Hatcher. Very hot.

I think Barbara Eden counts as two reasons.

I used to watch Without a Trace only because that Hispanic chick (can’t remember her name) was just about the hottest thing on TV at the time. She hit all the right buttons!

I watch Survivor when I can because I enjoy watching scantily-clad, reasonably attractive people get dragged through the mud or have other humilating things done to them, all while acting like a bunch of idiots, with no plot to get in the way.

I watched Ultra-Man to see if he would ever OPEN a fight with his big, main gun, rather than wrestle the bad guy until he was almost out of power, and THEN shoot him. He did. Once.

When I was a kid my parents let me stay up a couple of minutes late to watch the main title of Petticoat Junction. I was nuts about trains.

I only tune in to The Bachelor for the first couple of episodes, where ridiculous women get booted and blubber about loving the guy they spent three minutes with.

Well, that reminded me of another one…

When I was a little kid, living in suburban Chicago in the early 1970s (i.e., Before Cable), I loved to watch Ray Rayner and His Friends on WGN in the morning, before I’d go to school. Ray’s show started at 7 a.m., but I was often awake before then.

Back in those days, there were very few TV stations which carried programming 24 hours a day, and no Chicago station did. At 6 a.m., the only station which was on the air was WGN, and they were carrying a farm-news show called “Top o’ the Morning”, hosted by their longtime farm reporter, Orion Samuelson. With nothing else on the air, I’d watch the farm report while I ate cereal and waited for Ray Rayner to show up with cartoons.

30 years later, I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Samuelson. I told him the above story, and he laughed: “You have no idea how many people have told me that they grew up watching me while they waited for cartoons!”

I DVR essentially all of the shows I watch. I also fast-forward through the theme songs, except for 2 old examples:

Joan of Arcadia: I really loved that Joan Osborne song they used – named, I think, One of Us.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: For some reason that screeching guitar intro was always fun to listen to.

The only reason why I watch Malibu Country, The Last Man Standing, and Blue Bloods is because of their main characters: Reba, Tim Allen, and Donnie Wahlberg (I love his character’s no nonsense style!)

God bless you and them always!!!

Holly

“KITT, turbo boost!”

This probably doesn’t count because I think ‘House’ is one of the best TV shows ever made, but even if I hated it I would have watched just to stare at Dr. Chase! The early years, before he lost his looks: I found him just enchanting!
