I’ve seen plenty of rants about the overuse of smileys, but I don’t recall a rant about a more obnoxious problem: the use of the shrug or  over…and over…and over.
I was reminded of this feeling when I cruised through this thread…which by my quick count already had six instances of the damn thing.
It’s not like the cute little shrug really adds that much meaning to a point…and once you’ve passed the critical mass of shrug, it really just seems like an even more pointless gesture.
<standard aside to the first moron to post a shrug in response>
I shrug all the time, I never even realized it could be an annoying thing. I think it shows the “eh, I don’t really care” attitude better than most word things you could say.
If you reallyshrugall the time (which was the point of the OP), then yeah…it’s annoying as hell. Do you really need to go out of your way THAT much to say “I don’t care”?
When my response to something I’m reading is , I hit “back” and open another thread that I might actually be interested in. Sort of like in real life (that’s IRL for most posters, Ale) - I don’t talk a lot when I have nothing to say.
shrug I dunno what all the fuss is. I just shrug it off and go on with life. Some people just don’t know any other way of expressing their moods I guess.
(I have to admit tho… I WAS a little irritated writing that just now. Go figure)
