I think it’s about octopus telling a joke, somebody saying it wasn’t funny, and octopus being VERY VERY VERY VERY determined to prove it was, while most people would just shrug and try again elsewhere.

I’d say he was very, very, very, very determined to prove it wasn’t offensive or insensitive in the context of that thread. Most of the participants in that thread seem to agree with him.

What is it that’s so hard to understand with a group of you? I’ve read here for a while, after finding an article linked here I found interesting. More interested still I started reading the boards. It’s been a while now, reading but not saying anything. I decided to post and then after that comment on what I’ve seen here - a bunch of people are complete assholes and blowhards, in an otherwise cool board, I participated in a couple of threads.
You don’t think that’s normal? Are you so insulated and protected against everything that the idea of someone joining this board that doesn’t necessarily agree with you is unheard of?
The arrogance is amazing.
What I don’t believe is someone who in his first few posts ever on the boards knows other posters so well and is completely comfortable with making broad, personal insults about them like someone who has interacted with them extensively. It’s not believable that a real, new poster does that. That’s not normal.
A new poster can be tentative and held back. Or a new poster can be wild and insulting on a broad, general level. But a new poster who has never interacted with people does not make insults that suggest long-term familiarity. That’s not normal.
