I grew up in a house with guns. Was taught young to respect them, that they’re not toys. We had rifles, shotguns, pistols. We never open carried (except out in the woods during hunting season), or even concealed carry.
But then I was told I was a Nazi, a Klansman, a Murderer (of Bambi, no less!), just because I lived in a rural area and owned guns. I heard the calls for ever greater gun control, because people living somewhere else have high crime rates, revolving door justice system(s), and other people demanding door-to-door searches to confiscate private property, to round up all us redneck gun nuts and put us in prison (excuse me, “Cultural Readjustment Education Facilities” or some other Orwellian euphemism) just for existing (and killing Bambi).

- If you were no longer able to enjoy your new found hobby would you feel a loss of your identity?
- Do you feel that your right to enjoy of your new found hobby out weighs other peoples rights to live without fear of violence?
- Does the enjoyment of your new hobby outweigh any other political consideration?
- Do you fear that any regulation of your hobby will lead to its entire elimination?
- If your hobby became illegal would you stridently break the law in order to continue it?
- Do you fantasize about MAGAts invading your home so that you can put your new accessories to use?
- Are you going to vote Republican in the next election?
If your answer to all of these questions is no (and I’m pretty sure they are), then congratulations you are not a member of the gun culture, you just found a new activity you enjoy.

Some fyi for you though anecdotal.
When I was signing up for a gun safety course and a pistol maintenance course he mentioned that he needed to add “even more” of these classes because there has been a large increase in people who have never shot or owned a pistol before and kind of marveled that no one could teach them in their support group so they were dropping $125 a pop on these courses.
When I took both courses, over half were women. The instructor even mentioned that this was odd but seemed a trend lately.

Owning a gun doesn’t make you part of gun culture IMO. It’s fetishizing guns that makes you part of it.
If you own a gun and you’re responsible with it; get properly trained, lock it in a safe when not in use, don’t get drunk and shoot at random stuff, you’re not part of the “culture”. If you’re not lobbying to repeal all gun controls and donating to the NRA, you’re not part of gun culture. If you’re not voting based on a fear that the libruls are gonna come take your gun and put you in a concentration camp, you’re not part of gun culture.
