Eh, but giving any money to weapons manufactures does support gun culture. That’s one of several reasons I haven’t joined the OP yet.
But the reasons to join with the OP are becoming more and more apparent every fucking day. This very thread, with a poster saying that they feel the need to shoot and kill Democrats, for instance, pushed me a few more notches in that direction.
If you enjoy classical target shooting (the real gun culture), that is nothing to be conflicted about, it’s fun.
If you live in a violent neighbourhood where you and your family receive death threats, first of all, I commiserate. This is a completely separate problem though. (Where your physical safety may be a factor).
Short list. Laser designator and flashlight, scope or holoscopic sights.
Personally I don’t see the point of a scope except for sport shooting. If the target is far enough away to need a scope, they’re far enough away for me to disengage and depart.
The laser can give you a psychological advantage to be able to end the situation without bloodshed. Aside from the benefit of more accurate bullet placement.
Holoscopic sights give you improved accuracy without giving away your location.
Flashlights are, well, flashlights. See and know what you’re shooting at. Added possibility of blinding your target.
Welp, Morphy or Rock Island Arsenal has gun auctions of previously owned weapons - so there, you are not giving money to manufacturers, but to people disposing of weapons [someone inherited them and doesn’t want them had them and is going into assisted living and isn’t allowed to have them, any number of reasons the weapons appear for sale.]
And I have been threatened as well, so I don’t give a flying fuck at a rolling donut if you don’t want me to defend myself, sucks to be you. If that means I don’t turn everything over if they come for my weapons, so be it. Better be in jai than in a morgue.
Good to know, thanks for the info. Do they sell ammo through these sites as well?
I assume this wasn’t directed at me.
ETA: in looking at these sites, I am not convinced that at least some of the listings are not direct from the manufacturer or gun store. Any way to be sure?
Your partisan blinders are damn near perfect, not surprising as it’s almost a requirement to post here, that they prevented you from even seeing the OP.
Not sure offhand - actually there is some ammo that gets sold that is highly unique [really, you want a cartridge for what? I know Gun Jesus and C&Arsenal have networks of people they use to source rare ammunition and associated stuff like magazines, stripper clips and so on.
I know mrAru and I go through Cheaper Than Dirt for some of the stuff, reload a lot of our brass because it is cheaper than buying new all the time, and for target shooting wadcutters work just fine. I still have something like 10 000 rounds of .22 long rifle that I inherited so I won’t be buying any of that for a long time [and it is perfect for handgun safety teaching - a few people I know every year ask us to teach their kids respect for handguns and vermin rifles. Good for plinking rats as well.]
good to know, will have to check it out. We are pretty well set for a while - mrAru hasn’t had the time to hunt at all this past 6 years, suppoorting a spouse in full on cancer treatment sort of sucks up time =( And I really miss the venison. He did bag some rather nice rabbit, and found the time for some fishing though.
Following the 2016 election, I was a bit bemused by a few of my friends who suddenly considered purchasing a firearm for the first time in their life. Many of them were pretty vocal about their anti-gun beliefs so this was a great surprise to me. I’m not sure any of them actually purchased a firearm though.
To the OP, I’m sorry you’re in this situation. I’ve become a little more concerned about the potential for political violence over the last few years and especially after January 6th, 2021. I’ve been a gun owner my entire adult life, but I was never worried about politically motivated violence before. Now I am.
I’m saying you need to learn to read and even though it would be breaking from the established and enforced norms of this place try to be a little less obvious with your partisan myopia.
No cities burnt, some buildings, some vehicles. Republicans and brainwashed MAGAs blathering on to influence people who actually don’t read/watch/listen to news.
Ok…coming back but my defense is it isn’t directly thread related.
I, as an older White Male, was shocked about the riots.
However, it looked to me to be a succession of POLICE riots. Here in Minneapolis, the police were out of control. It appeared they were out of control in other areas as well.
I have always been pro-law enforcement. Even volunteered and donated to helping-the-police causes. I remember thinking at the time that when an older White Male that has never been in trouble with the law and does these things starts NOT BELIEVING YOU when you make statements and gets pissed off at you, for example, macing a 6-8 year old girl just standing there that maybe…just MAYBE you should take a serious look at yourselves.
Serious question - was I mistaken in thinking they looked like police riots?
There’s nothing wrong with having a gun or being involved in gun culture. You can be liberal and do that stuff just fine. And there’s nothing wrong with having a gun because you feel like you must protect your family. All of those are perfectly normal, reasonable things to do, regardless of political leanings.
And you don’t have to justify why you own a gun any more than it’s acceptable for someone to hypothetically threaten the lives of your family.
And it’s FUN. That’s the thing that a lot of people don’t get. It’s a skill challenge, it’s got a certain… awesomeness because of the power of the tool you use to do it, it’s got near-infinite variability between the types of guns and ammunition out there, and the types of things you can do.
Where the wrongness comes in is with that “someone” who essentially threatened you because of your political beliefs. THAT is the problem here, not the guns. Threatening someone’s life, even hypothetically, based on political beliefs isn’t acceptable.
