I was looking forward to the direction this thread about whether or not Evolution and Creationism are the only choices for “the beginning of life” (particularly if there was more information forthcoming about scientific rationales and research into abiogenesis). But alas, lekatt has poked his nose into the thread, and thus it will degenerate into Dopers attempting to teach the pig to sing in the interests of making sure that the lurkers’ ignorance is fought.

My rule for dealing with posters like **lekatt ** is called the Typing Monkeys rule, which absolves me of the responsibility of replying to them at all. The basis of the rule is the certain knowledge that, just because you might be able to teach a monkey to bang on a keyboard, it does not necessarily follow that the product of this typing is worthy of a serious response.
If more people would keep this rule in mind, posters like lekatt would go away after pissing into a vacuum for a while.
If you’ve kept up with the thread, you’ll have learned at least one thing: evolution doesn’t have anything to do with the origins of life.

I think they’re already covering that over there - I know solipsism has come up - but I’m not sure.
Last I checked, he hadn’t brought up NDEs yet. For lekatt, this is a stellar performance. Of course he’s willfully ignorant, but than Og for small favors.
I think lekatt is absolute proof AGAINST ID. How can you call THAT “intelligent” design?

I no longer address Lekatt, and usually ignore him the way I’d ignore a dog eating its own vomit behind a Dumpster, but the SDMB will be a little more pleasant once he’s finally banned.
Why yes, clearly he’s going to be a flash in the pan. He’s only lasted this brief while because the mods (like tomndebb) haven’t noticed him yet, and so haven’t had the opportunity to take him to task for his frequent and flagrant rule violations.
As much as I dislike the guy (I feel the need to point out for his method of argument, not his beliefs), I don’t think he’s done anything bannable. Unless you think he’s making it all up, in which case bravo to him for being such a believable troll.
I’m reminded of the adage:
If you add a teaspoon of wine to a barrel of sewage, you still have sewage. Add a teaspoon of sewage to a barrel of wine, and…you have sewage.
lekatt’s posts are sewage of the highest (lowest?) order.
As long as this is the pit: he’s the argumentative equivalent of a large, smeary dingleberry – no matter how much toilet paper you use, you’ll still end up with an indelible skid-mark in your skivvies. The only remedy is a thorough cleansing – wash your hands (and other body parts) of the offending substance.

lekatt has a serious point; science is not immune to the lure of dogma.
Read lobohan’s post #69 in that thread; if that is most people’s understanding of evolution, is there really any wonder that some people just don’t buy into it?
That is not lekatt’s point. lekatt’s point is that all you have to do to “win” an argument is to refuse to accept the basic established facts that are relevant to the argument, and to pretend that any group of such facts is a “theory” and can simply be rejected by force of will, factuality be damned.
His claim that science is the same as religion is only true for people like him, who choose to treat them the same.

He is not a troll. He is a true believer. As was pointed out to me a while ago lekatt is an internet institution. This is by far not the only place he posts. He is everywhere. Here is his website if you are interested. I can’t get past the music. IIRC he doesn’t leave GD and never does the Pit so this won’t ever get to him. He is too busy posting on dozens of MBs.

What I don’t know, is what IS the most commonly accepted scientific explanation for the origin of life? Is it as simple as “DNA formed randomly via naturally occurring chemical reactions?”
What is “true” about asking for answers, ignoring the answers given, then re-asking over and over and over again as if he were asking them for the first time?
