The mist clears. :smack:
But I still think I made a good point re Lekatt, despite being whooshed.
You did. You will never get through to him, but maybe you can get through to the people who humor him.
You’ll understand someday.

It wasn’t entirely a joke. Eighty percent. Ninety, tops. As far as I know, meenie’s ghost-buddy has inspired exactly one Pit thread. Lekatt’s various frootlooperies have inspired at least ten. Why anyone (including long-time posters like Diogenes the Cynic who should know better) persists in trying to debate him is baffling.
How is that relevant? “Many people” install their toilet paper roll with the paper hanging down over it; many do the opposite. Again, what’s the relevance to this subject, in this forum?
I am not comfortable with letting a statement implying that science is ever, in any way, to any one, the same as religion, go unchallenged. By anyone.
They are both the result of fundamental human instincts, they can inform and illuminate each other, they are not the same.
At this point I’d venture to say that the only people who lekatt could influence are those as equally impervious to reality. Giving him attention only reinforces his belief that his fantasies are worth debating instead of simply scraping off the bottom of one’s shoe, and is a waste of your time and energy and is a potential risk to your sanity.
Please try again to understand my point.
He is doing the same thing all over the damn web, giving him an open forum to spread his anti-science crap unchallenged. I see no reason to let him have another free and unfettered forum to do the same here. He doesn’t give a shit whether or not we debate him, as long as his revelations reach the masses-IMHO he shouldn’t get a free pass to do the same to guests and members here. Guests coming in don’t know how dishonest and underhanded he is when he pretends that he doesn’t know the answers to the questions he asks, so we do them a favor by telling them as soon as possible what his act is all about. Let them know right up front that he doesn’t give a shit about their cites or their opinions, let them know that he has his own ill-thought-out definitions of words like “science”, “cite”, and “study”, and let them know that doesn’t respect them enough to even consider their point of view.
We sure as fuck can’t do anything about his ignorance that he proudly wears like armor, but we would be neglecting new guests coming in if we didn’t let them in on his shtick.
Presuming, of course, that this message board is entirely populated by internet veterans who know lekatt personally. Since, absent personal familiarity with lekatt, the “if nobody challenges a post then everyone agrees with it” rule is percieved to apply. Correct?
Exactly.
Also, how would it help fight ignorance if we behaved like his other pet boards and just let him spew unchallenged? Someone could read his rantings, decide to Google him to see whats up, and find out that his claims go unquestioned, even on this board.
Double ungood.
Yeah, I guess you and Czarcasm have convinced me I was wrong. Pity, 'cause as soon as lekatt takes over a thread, it becomes all about him and I usually stop reading it.
“Debating” Lekatt is a Sisyphean task. (I know that’s what we’ve been saying the whole thread; but I wanted to be the first to describe it as “Sisyphean”. Ah; feels good.)
Since, as Frank acknowledges, this is true, and since what Frank further says about lekatt’s lethal effect on a thread is also true, couldn’t that history be taken into account for a lekatt-specific rule about continually derailing evolution threads with the same old shit? I mean, if his behavior essentially makes a serious discussion on the topic impossible, and it’s always because of him repeating the same old behavior over and over? Serious question; I know poster-specific rules are rare, but they’re not unheard of for such situations.
Yeah, see reeder, handy, et.al.
Excellent examples, though handy got the hook for an actual board violation. But it was just a matter of time and another cochlear implant thread.
Why isn’t habitual, repeated, constant dishonesty in service of an agenda a banable offense?
You’d think, wouldn’t you? Here we seem to bump up against the judgment of the mods and admins, who prefer to err to the side of caution. Though that has prevented us from being banned, it COULD be expanded an eensie bit more, though that would play into his persecution complex. We’re fucked either way.
What are his other “pet boards?”
