I think I typed one in, but I was too shy to use it, so it was turned off. And I don’t remember what it was.
i had two together one was based on Bernie wards signoff when he was on KGO in SF
"It is usually better and easier to get forgiveness than permission "
and a paraphrased lyric from one of my fav new order songs
"there’s no point in telling me the wisdom of a fool cant and won’t set me free "
rjk and I had a matched set after we got married
rjk: Roped in by a Texan
Me: Wanna see my rope tricks?
Mine wasn’t very original.
I was aware of the issue where if you changed your .sig it would update all your old posts with the new one, so I always just pasted it in as part of my post. And I never came up with a new one before I quit using it, not too long before we switched over to Discourse, IIRC. So I was able to find the exact text I used when I went searching. I see at some point the double hyphens (old Usenet practice) got munged into a single n-dash or m-dash. Oh, that’s Discord still doing it in fresh posts.

That’s my post; hope you liked it!
funny when I came back to the boards after a very long absence most people didn’t use sigs anymore and they were considered an annoyance …
Years ago—maybe 2001 or 2002—there was a thread game where you said something silly or funny about the poster directly above you. I posted, and a little while later, somebody came in behind me, with this:
“Spoons cannot be beat. Unless you want to be charged with assault and battery, of course.”
That became my sig, though I rarely used it.
I was boring, my sig was (usually) a link to my external movie review website (now defunct).
I vaguely recall occasionally having a “clever” sig, or maybe a couple, but I have no memory of what it, or they, might have been.
I had to read that twice ..
I was going to say that they take up a lot of space in a thread, 'specially with
short/terse posts (particularly in thread games), but this ..
could mitigate that.
That’s an upside to the new custom titles. They take up no space.
They also have the downside the vBulletin sigs had: if you change your title then every past post of yours is now displayed with your new title.
Mine was what’s in my custom title now.
Who had “God was my co-pilot…until we crashed in the Andes and I had to eat him.”? That one made me laugh every time I saw it.
Back in the days of dinosaurs, or at least the days of Unix mainframes, my .sig (for those of you both old enough and geeky enough to know what a Unix .sig file was) was:
“Electrical engineer, computer geek, and no-talent bum musician”.
I can’t remember if I had that on my SDMB profile or not. I probably did.
That is obviously way too long to use as an email address or a user name, so I shortened it to engineer_comp_geek.
I recall alphaboi867’s, which was rendered in rainbow colors. At first I was puzzled because it seemed to be an anti-links thing, thanks to the light color of the shade of yellow he used for for the third and fourth characters: “No Golf No Masters”…thought he hated the entire idea of Augusta National, esp. if playing it under a rainbow…
And on the original board, Alt.fan.cecil-adams on Usenet the sigs were just a few words placed in the middle of your name. Like: "Beck (still driving) dawrek. They would often reflect the topic under discussion.
I remember having a line from Blackadder II about turnip-shaped thingies.
But the one I used most was, “This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is Mine.”
Was Divemaster the one with the diver’s creed? (“If you have to cheat, CHEAT death! If you have to steal, STEAL another dive!”)
When I first started using the Star Wars reference, my sig was an anagram for “May the force be with you.” I only used it a few times.
You’re not the only one.

…the new custom titles
This one, however, I got right the first time.
mmm
Perhaps what we all know about the genders of the posters involved subtly colored the way your word recognizer works? Hmm.
Hmmm? Myself.
Sorry about that.

And the Great Avatar War is thankfully behind us.
There are posters I have on ignore simply because I dislike their avatar. When we had a thread on avatars after the Great Migration, a couple of other posters said the same thing.
