I’m not disputing your taste good Sir, but I am surprised anyone did that, much less a fine and understanding citizen such as yourself.
I do know a bunch of people have changed their avatars. I recall the thread that encouraged all the cat owners to change their avatar to a pic of their cats with the result that we now have about 20 posters with indistinguishable dark gray bordering on black smudges for avatars. I find that vexing, but it falls short of deserving an Ignore.
You might find that some of the ones you deemed objectionable before have since changed or seem less outré than they once did. Of course if a bad-avatar poster was also an idiot or impolite or … , then no great loss. One can find it hard to say which straw broke the camel’s back when there are many.
Mine was from Rummy, and a lovely example of deadpan academia:
“There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don’t know we don’t know.”
Perhaps because in a looooong thread, you could go to the page number list at the bottom of, say, page 7 and click on, say, 14 and thus jump past pages 8-13.
I’m thinking of changing my car avatar (recognize it?) to a new user name - Laminated Veneer Lumber. Then I can have purple LVL avatar and people will get us mixed up.
I doubt avatars have to be unique. Even if Discourse did try to enforce a uniqueness constraint, you can probably bit-twiddle one pixel to be one shade different and fool their filter.
No need for you to to struggle with getting the Mods to approve a username change.
Heck, maybe we could get a bunch of the regulars together, all get custom titles of “The Dirty Dozen” and get seemingly identical avatars, maybe a stylized dark brown DD on a light brown background symbolizing dirt.
I can’t image how that could possibly backfire? Can you? [Mods: NOT a serious suggestion.]
I’m pretty sure that I had a sig, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was, or how I used it. And as far as I can tell there’s no way to look it up under Discourse
Right, our old sigs are gone forever. I had to do mine from memory for here – and now that i ponder it, it might be that part of it read: “…wit, wisdom, badinage, and run-on sentences…”
