Silly Music

A lot of Tom Waits’ work is pretty ridiculous. Cemetary Polka, anyone?

Drat, I was hoping to mention them first.
Instead, I give you the Flying Fish Sailors. They have a song called, “Loch Ness Monster” that’s just great to see live. With small children who frighten easily.

I’m not evil.

I can’t believe no one’s mentioned the Moldy Peaches, although only some of their stuff is silly. “Steak for Chicken,” at least, is pretty silly. And it has two sets of lyrics, so you can mash them up and sound even sillier.

Who mistook this steak for chicken?
Who’m I gonna stick my dick in?

The Electric Six. “Gay Bar” slays me. Check out the fantastic video on the rathergood site.

I loved Da Yoopers when I was listening to the Good Doctor regularly!

o/Tirdy-point, tirdy-point, tirdy-point buck! o/

Oh, two more.

The Bobs Sometimes more surreal than blatantly silly. Everything from They Might Be Giants and Jimi Hendrix covers (which is a pretty good trick for an a cappella group) to a song about a guy who goes to a baseball autograph show and asks Mickey Mantle to sign his dog.

Da Vinci’s Notebook Another a cappella quartet. Check out Title of the Song, the template for every boy-band love song ever written.

Oooh…
To quote Brian Griffin…
“Swing and a miss!”

Turdy Point Buck (and subsequently Turdy Point Buck II Da Sequel and Turdy Point Buck III Da Turd Album) is done by Bananas At Large.

The two groups do sound very similar.

D’oh! :smack:

Good grief, how in the world did we get this far in the thread without mentioning the B-52’s?!?!?

“What’s that on your head?”

“A WIG!”

Hey!,
I know one of the Fling Fish Sailors (Jay Lee), what did I win?.
My nomination is the Reverend Billy C. Wirtz

Time to mention one of the all time greats of this genre-
Ray Stevens.

It’s certainly not all silly, but Mr. Bungle certainly has some unusual, silly songs.

I can’t believe that Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention have not been mentioned. :smack:
