Silly things that make you feel happy

I completed most of the move of my computer stuff and such yesterday into a small room in the upper level of my home.

Mainly I did this because heating bills are expected to rise (even for us natural gas users) thirty to fourty percent this winter. As you know, heat rises and it does get quite warm upstairs if the sun is out even if it’s 30 degrees outside.

Anyhow, I vacummed, carried two tables upstairs (one was on the bottom level) and hung pictures.

I ran to Wal*Mart to get some items; mini blinds, a plant, two space heaters (one is going back today it’s too noisy) and some potpourri (mulberry nice).

Then I ran to Best Buy and bought a new 19" TV (the other one blew about 2 years ago, this was a good excuse to replace it). This is the only kind of shopping I really like to do, shopping for electronic things.

So, now I have a new home office and will be spending a great deal of my time up here over the next 6-7 months as I plan on keeping my heater to 66 degrees throughout the season.

Anyhow, I put it all together and even my 10 year old boom box sounds pretty good in this little room. I hope I don’t get cabin fever over the winter because I am not ripping down my computers again and taking them downstairs.

It makes me happy though, it was a nice day to change one little thing in my life. It’s warm and cozy, after a cold night last night, and I feel like I am cocooning! Oh and I did get in my work out! My arms and legs are sore from carrying things, moving things out of here and such so it was a two-fer deal!

And a side note: I increased my channel viewing capabilities and can get UPN now so I can watch more stupid shows and hopefully be able to get some Avs hockey this year. (no cable – I don’t want it)

I’m glad the move went well. It’s always an adventure to unplug.

We’ve been waiting for a cable modem hookup since last December. Every time I’ve called they said they had the equipment in place and were “testing the system”. In the meantime I’m paying for an extra phone line and an ISP to get 28.8 service. I haven’t called in a couple of months so you’ll be happy to know, TC, that you’ve inspired me to try once again to get some service from our local cable provider.

If they still won’t hook us up we’ll move in with you and use your computer. There are only my wife and I and two teenagers. And two dogs. Oh, and two grown sons who turn up between semesters. They eat a lot.

A nice ice-cold 6-pack of canadian lager after killing myself all day long, surrounded by the dirt, dust and the assholes that seem to congregate to this environment.

pluto,

I found out about Sprint’s broadband service today.

It uses digital two way to connect, check it out at:
http://www.sprintbroadband.com/what/about.html

If it’s available in your area you may save yourself a lot of traffic headaches (cable internet is not much different than a LAN, if everyone and their grandma is on it you will notice a slow down in speed.) It’s only $44 a month here and I think I will be looking into it within the next month!

LOL, pluto, I missed the last part of your post.

I don’t think you would want to move in with me and use my computer, I only connect at 26.4!!! Yep, my internet speed is slower than yours!

I have a 28.8 modem but I only get 24-26 connect speed too. I’m kind of handicapped on using high-speed phone line connections because I have some sort of old technology on my line. They would have to upgrade before they could connect. It is unclear who would have to pay for the upgrade. But I’ll look into it.

If it makes any difference on us moving in – I can cook. Nothing fancy, but it’ll be hot and the portions will be large. I don’t do windows.

I deeply apologize to Techchick for hijacking her thread, but there is something that needs to be said here.

Grimhacker, if you really don’t like it here, there is absolutely nobody standing in your way of leaving. Please feel free to never visit this site again. Believe me, you would be doing yourself and us all a great big favor by staying away.

Okay, back to business.

Shadowfox, I was talking about my work, not here. I guess you got confused by all the grim-bashing going on. I actually like this place.

Grimshitter was unpleasant in tc’s thread. To quote ScoobyDoo, “Rut-roe!”

Kid, glad to have you back. We have this particularly persistent troll and I was wondering…
