I too am looking for the movie in which they say up Simba up and it is an elephant I watch circus world with John Wayne and I watch The Greatest Show on Earth with Charlton Heston and that elephant is not in those movies it’s driving me crazy.
I moved thread to Cafe Society.
Simba is usually a Lion. Perhaps it was Jumbo you’re looking for?
Perhaps a Tarzan movie. He called a chimpanzee Cheetah, maybe he calls an elephant Simba.
Good call, this thread from 2005 found the this:
Just throwing this out there:
“Hatari!” has three baby elephants and I think one of them might be named Simba – all three names are similar, plus Elsa Martinelli is christened “Mama Tembo” (Mother Elephant) at one point by the resident African tribe.
While bathing the elephants, she says, “Up, [Simba? Temba? IDK], up!” so she can hose off its belly.
I will check out that Tarzan’s Secret Treasure to see if that scene is indeed in there.
It drives my crazy because every morning when I put on my dog’s harness, to get her front legs through at the same time
she needs to stand up so I can slip it over her head and under her front legs AND I SAY every morning during this ritual: UP SIMBA UP!!
nope not Jumbo or Dumbo or Columbo. For sure it is Simba.
Could have been used in other Tarzan movies also. I had the fuzzy memory of Weismuller saying this, I’ve seen all the classic Tarzan movies. It could have been copied in later Tarzan movies also, they usually had more literate Tarzans but still copied many classic scenes and references from the old movies.
