My approach has been to start out with avenues. They’re not the much more expensive than roads, and replacing roads with avenues is extremely expensive (in terms of short-term revenue loss) if there’s any development.

I agree with this in general, but be sure to start with medium density avenues, and don’t blow half your starting simoleons on a massive avenue system.

Jragon and Lute Skywatcher, I noticed you claimed additional sites but haven’t done anything with them. If you don’t intend on building there, I think we’d all appreciate you abandoning them. I know we didn’t agree on a single site per player, but there are still more Dopers coming in (the game still hasn’t even been officially released in ANZAC and EU) and I’d like to reserve some space for them. I don’t have the ability to kick anyone so if you keep the sites, I can’t do anything about it.

In my next post, I’ll share what I’ve learned about clusters and region play.

That was lag, sorry. When I was first joining it kept telling me the (blank) region I picked was claimed so I tried a different one and I didn’t get that one either, until suddenly the universe righted itself. I’m still trying to figure out how to abandon.

I was having a look around at what sites were available and the game must have decided I wanted to build there while I was still deciding on which I wanted.

“Moss Yell” is a variant of “Mos Eisley”, of course. Sounds better than “Mossy Eel I”.

On the opening screen, click on “Play”, choose the Ceciltopia region, and select the city you wish to abandon.

In the Origin client, select Friends -> Add a Friend and put in TerminusEst920 in the appropriate search box. I’d add you myself, but I think you’ve got your privacy settings up so high that I can’t even search on you username.

I had no idea ground water ran dry. I may have to grab on of the unclaimed towns to make pump town, or else wolf island is dead. Can it rain on off session to refill?

Yes, rain refills the water table. Can’t you make a deal with a neighbor? Lute Skywatcher should be able to fix you up.

I’m in region mode and I start panning around and the moment you can see your city my wife is all like: “How come yours doesn’t look like that?”.

I’m in region mode and I start panning around and the moment you can see your city my wife is all like: “How come yours doesn’t look like that?”.

My “metropolis” is a hellhole, it merely has the facade of a utopia when really everybody is suffering and the city has no money.

ETA: They’re all really smart and well educated, though!
