Sigh, abandoning one city apparently bugged out and abandoned both of them, and now I can’t get back on or join a game or make my own or anything.

Man, even the launcher isn’t responsive. It just hangs on updating.
You can’t have this kind of thing going on. The authentication servers should eb an entirely separate thing. Leaving people int he dakr like this is just making the internet angrier and angrier.
I’ve got the game installed, but I can’t get past the server selection. It let me in once, forced me to load a tutorial, and then told me that it couldn’t connect to a server and immediately crashed.
Just a tad peeved, yes.
Terminus, I sent you a friend request (username Keeene; “skammer” was taken).
ETA: Wow, and you accepted it already. Never mind!
Did that first time I tried playing, too. Might have something to do with server load. EA suggests trying different servers until you can load the tutorial.
After a whole lot of irritation I made it in, and then after a whole lot more irritation I managed to claim my spot in Ceciltopia.
Destiny awaits!
ETA: Annnnd the servers are down again.
Thanks, EA.
Holy gridlock! Got my first skyscrapers and that night was treated to a massive 5-hour long traffic jam. I may have to get some street cars or buses.
Installing a bus system is very simple and intuitive.
Also, if you’ve got demand for high density, those avenues with street cars are pretty sweet!
I might end up just razing my town, taking a bond, and starting over. This is ridiculous (17k in the red at 10% taxes for everyone – everybody hates me, I’m losing skilled worked blah blah blah).
I’m in and finished the tutorial, can anyone invite me to Ceciltopia? (Keeene)
Managed to dick around for an hour or so in Bravasia. Took me a while to figure out how they deal with grids/zones. Seems like you need to plan for density from the very beginning, which is annoying.
If you abandon your city, does it just clear the lot and let you start over again? I might be better off doing that now that I see how mining is going to work (Bravasia is set up to be a coal town).
Abandoning the city leaves it intact for someone else to take over. Dunno if the new player will get some cash or whether he has to deal with the deficit.
Jragon: if you’re going to raze your city, rain down some meteors on it and take plenty of pictures! I’m actually leeching off some of your departments, like education and utilities. It’ll be interesting to see what happens if you destroy your city hall. For something less extreme, you could try turning off some of the more expensive buildings.
Those dotted lines you see when laying roads help to plan density. They’re spaced at the minimum distance for high density lots on one side.
Established a Tourism Department with the intention of building an Expo center. Boy, howdy, that thing is expensive! Maybe I’ll just build a casino instead and deal with the inevitable criminals.
Yup. That sounds like a Doper’s town
After a mere two hours of waiting, I got to log in and play for about 15 minutes! Well, I say “play”… I actually mean “redo the tutorial that I did two weeks ago in beta”. Also, most of the time it was telling me the server was down, so I think there’s a fair chance it didn’t save my progress in the tutorial.
Hehe schools were the first thing I turned off when times got bad, mi peples dont kneed no edjuaction.
I set up the quiet riverfront town of Bear River in between server outages. It will be interesting to see how much of it actually got saved. I haven’t played SimCity since a little bit of SC2000 so I’m almost a total SC virgin which means my town is probably already irrevocably screwed up :). Mainly I’m having trouble getting my roads to connect to each other for some reason - I’ll be drawing my road and all of the sudden it won’t let me go any further.
I picked Mining as a specialty because Bear River has a ton of ore deposits, once I figure out how to build a bridge to the other side of the river. There is also some coal but ironically I built my power plant right on top of it - if I eventually build a coal mine does it have to be right on top of the coal deposit or can it be a little off to the side?
Hehe, that reminds me. I managed to build a fully suspension bridge over a tiny ditch. Like a couple of planks thrown over a crick, but supported by a full size Golden gate tower. I decided I kind of like it, looks like a monument near my entrance.
Ahh man. I got a “your city is not processing correctly, we will try to fix it” message, then it kicked me out. When I logged back in my city was empty land again.
I hope they restore it back, I’ll give a bit of time.
