Simetra stares at the expiration date on his military ID.

06MAR2009.

Jeez that’s a long time away. Oh well. Hey everybody… I reenlisted!* Six more years of service to my country. And more than likely ten more after that. Just thought you’d like to know.
[sub]*And got a pretty phat paycheck for it too.[/sub]

Rank? Branch? Division? Do you shoot a gun regularly? Fly a jet? Play a tuba?

Just curious.
Happy

Cool beans, Sim. So, when do you make Staff?

You know, CMSgts don’t make the mistake of not logging their wives out before posting.

Thank God I have the excuse of being a SrA.

Again, that’s great news. I’m pretty much a lifer, too.

NOT ME!!! Bwa-Ha-HA!!!

But who the heck knows? I’ve been on an MEB for a bloody year. It may take another eternity before they decide to let me go.

[sigh] Next month marks my being in for 3 years. Crap.

But hey, it’s more money!

SrA, USAF, AFMC, yes, no, only on thursdays when it’s raining.

Thanks all.

AD, I’ll make Staff soon. I unfortunately wasn’t a participant in the great SSgt giveaway last year… I was out of cycle to test. So when you headed to the SNCOA?

2005mar01. sigh.

But, only 5 years, 3 weeks, and 6 days 'til I have my 20.

15 Dec 2005

After I make officer, why would I need to go there?

All I’ll have to say when I see you is “Where is thy salute, Sergeant?”.

Mwahahahahahahaha!

Congrats, Simetra! Good on ya!! Got pictures?

Myself, I’m enslaved for another 8 years at least.

Tripler
I like my work (except for today  ). I wouldn’t be doing anything else (just more of my own, and less of everyone else’s  ).

2006 DEC 31 with at least 4 active and 4 years reserve after that Of course, I am still just a midshipman in ROTC, in a couple of years, all of you will have to salute me.

Congratulations, Simetra. That’s smashing news; I’m incredibly proud of you for your devotion to this country.

2003 MAY 19 here :P. I’ll be very glad when I’m finally out, turns out I’m not very compatible with military thinking. 6 years was plenty.

Simetra: I was under the impression you had to make Sergeant before you made Staff Sergeant.

Mine expired 8 years ago, but I was never in the military.

Congratulations, Simetra! My brown one says 2005Jun10, but I’m trading that one in for a spiffy green one this summer, and I don’t expect that one to expire for a good long time.

Air Force SSgt is an E-5. There is no Sgt.

Semper Fi

My old ID card said “Indefinite,” but this new thing says 2004DEC17.

I just signed for a bonus, so I’m locked in for another five years. The earliest I’ll be able to get out is around year 13, so I’m pretty much a lifer also.

DreadCthulhu, I was NROTC, and AFAIK there was no requirement for me to serve in the reserves if I had gotten out last year. If you serve eight years AD and get out, does your 4-year reserve commitment still stand?

flyboy88: There’s something called the MSO (Military Service Obligation). Back when I first enlisted, that was six years. Nowadays, it’s eight years. So, if you serve eight years Active Duty, you’ve fulfilled your MSO. & in case anyone’s wondering, if you had entered the military when the MSO was six years and were still in when it went to eight years, your MSO remained six years.
