Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette movie that came out a few years ago had a New Wave/electro-pop soundtrack that people either loved or hated. If you weren’t annoyed by contemporary music in historical settings in those other movies, you might like it.
Ooh, good one. Yeah, I liked it.
The granddaddy of them all: “Singing in the Rain” in Clockwork Orange.
Another favorite: the adaptation of “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” in Escape from New York.
And I loved the use of “Clair de Lune” in the final scene in Oceans Eleven.
The polka-loving hit man in Aria is an entire character based around your idea.
Oops, I mean Diva, not Aria.
Rushmore uses songs almost exclusively from the British Invasion of the 1960’s even the movie takes place now-ish.
I’ll second Ladyhawk. Damn good movie except for the soundtrack, which didn’t match.
I’m still watching the thread, so I do get your contributions.
Mirror Mirror, the more colourful of the recent Snow White movies, has a Bollywood number in it.
As does The Guru, with a weird Grease reference at the end.
Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette was full of anachronistic references. I can’t recall if there’s any musical element, though.
I hate Bollywood stuff. I’ll be skipping anything in that category. Thanks for the input though.
I picked this up in the library yesterday based on this thread – what a delightful movie! Thanks for the recommendation.
I’m glad you liked it. I, too, think it is cute; I like it better than my daughters do.
Django Unchained fits the bill as well - along with Ennio Morricone-style western music, it also had Jim Croce, John Legend, and a James Brown / 2PAC rap song.
