I’m looking for movies that have the incorporated song elements in the style of the above 3 movies. I want music artistically integrated like these movies. Do you know of any more? Topsy-Turvy comes close in movie style but doesn’t incorporate music in the way I’m looking for, though I like the movie.
I would never have watched Hudson hawk before this. Bonus this is when Bruce Willis still had hair. I never heard of Ella Enchanted. I will try to watch these. I’ve seen Flash Gordon so I won’t be looking for this. Two new movies added to to the find and watch list.
Except that these have songs written for the movies – both Moulin Rouge! and A Knight’s Tale (I haven’t seen The Fifth Element) use popular songs and place them anachronistically into a film set in a different place/time.
You got it. I’m glad to see you’re still around. I’ve stayed away since not needing to use this site to rebuild my memories after an severe illness. You’re a really nice and kind person. You’re always a welcomed poster. Don’t blush you deserve the praise. Thanks for the support when my mind was rebuilding.
I was wondering about the inclusion of The Fifth Element, but I assume that the OP is referring to a scene in which an operatic diva is performing while a violent attack goes on in another part of the same building.
Inglorious Bastards features David Bowie’s “Cat People” in the background of a scene that was set approximately forty years before the song was actually written.
Baz Luhrmann (who directed Moulin Rouge), has The Great Gatsby coming out in May, and from the trailers at least - which feature Jay-Z and Jack White - it looks like it will be along these lines as well.
There’s a difference in my mind between a movie like Across the Universe that takes a selection of songs and builds a movie around it (and let’s be honest, is anyone really watching Across the Universe for the plot?) and Ella Enchanted which is a movie about a cursed teenager in a fantasyland who by the way sings Somebody to Love in a tavern.
-The new Tron: yes, the music is soundtrack, but without it, the movie wouldn’t have been nearly the same. I hear the music later and am transported back into the movie itself.
Kinda like how I hear “I’m a Believer” now, and dance like Donkey. Just can’t help it!
I am not looking for musicals. I am looking for that out of place music that integrates into multiple cut scenes. Rock’n roll in med-evil times, so bodacious. Perfect cuts between locations as music plays (5th Element), super duper. Modern songs integrated into the Moulin Rouge of a century ago oulala.
