To answer a few questions:
I love the Amaretto Sour and the Lime Daiquiri suggestion so far, it looks like I’ll be on the lookout for ingedients.
As far as types of alcohol I enjoy, I’ve been partial to the fruitier cocktails, so I’ve primarily had rum-based ones. However, I like cream based ones (especially Bailey’s…mmm) and Kahlua (mmm…white russian). Gin I’ve had before in Martinis (with Bombay Sapphire) and it was good if strong. Liquors I do not like: whiskey and Jaeger, of the top of my head. Kingspades: You are a man after my own heart. I use my digital scale religiously and love it to death. I’ll try your ratios.
Bacardi makes (or used to, I haven’t looked in a while) frozen drink mixers that are in the frozen juice section of the grocery. Pina Colada, Mai Tai, Strawberry Daiquiri. You toss the contents of the can in the blender, add some ice, and the desired amount of light rum (or water, if you’re driving) and let 'er rip. They’re pretty tasty, actually.
I’ve seen bottled daiquiri mixes but I seem to recall they’re vile. You can make a decent strawberry daiquiri “from scratch” using frozen strawberries, a bit of limeade concentrate (again, the frozen juice section), some sugar, and rum, though I don’t recall the proportions.
Any bartender will know what you’re asking for if you ask for any of the above. They may not have the frozen versions of them however, but most do.
