Simple but delicious food

My only modifications to this are to lightly toast the bread, and eliminate the pepper. Truly food fit for the gods!

I agree with all above. I love tomatoes.

One of my favorites is rice.

A bowl or cup of Basmati or Jasmine rice with a touch of soy sauce, buttter and basil. Perhaps a little fresh ground pepper.

Very easy to build on with some veggies or left-over meat. But excelent by itself if cooked properly.

An omelet, French style (i.e., not a scrambled egg with mix-ins) with pesto beaten into the egg and Emmethaler cheese.

A nice piece of beef liver, dredged in bread crumbs, and cooked (not overcooked!!! – it should be just barely pink in the middle) in butter.

Or just a French-style omelette with salt and pepper. Or maybe a bit of dill.

A baked potato with butter, sour cream, and salt. I’d like to think I have a well-traveled palate, but this is the only food that makes me want to lick the plate.

Four boneless pork chops
Salt and pepper
2TBSP of butter
1/2C each no-sugar-added apricot fruit spread and grainy brown mustard

Heat butter in large pan over medium; melt butter in pan; season chops with salt and pepper. Cook 5-6 minutes per side, depending on thickness.

While they are cooking, whisk together the fruit spread and mustard.

Remove chops from pan, tent with foil to keep warm. Put fruit spread mixture in pan and whisk until the fruit spread “loosens up” and the sauce is warm through. Serve chops with apricot/mustard sauce poured over them.

This dinner comes together in about 15 minutes, tastes excellent, and if we have a leftover chop, it’s breakfast the next morning, too!

A good tomato sandwich, imho, is a thick-sliced, locally grown, in-season tomato (preferably still warm from the sun!), on nice soft bread, with mayo (not Miracle Whip!), salt and fresh-ground pepper! Mmmmmm. I’m not normally a tomato fan, but I do like this!

French bread + olive oil + goat cheese/chevre.

Perfect for a midsummer day when you’re too tired to cook and it’s too hot to eat a hearty meal anyway. Best if all ingredients are fresh. A bit of fresh basil on top doesn’t hurt either.

Grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and tomato. Five ingredients, as per OP’s rule.

Crusty white bread
Sharp cheese (two layers, both adjacent to the bread)
Crisp bacon
Homegrown tomato
Butter, to spread on the outside before frying it up in the pan.

If I ate these as much as I desire them, I’d weigh 500 lbs.

This is mine. Must use fresh, summer tomatoes. Toasted white bread, lightly buttered, S & P.

I thought I was the only one.

Eating right now:
Shred some cheddar cheese. Butter two slices of whole-wheat bread. Put the cheese on the bread, toss that it a frying pan on low heat. While it cooks, heat up some tomato soup. Tastes like childhood.

A second submission which technically has more than five ingredients: Chop up some garlic and onion, toss it in a frying pan with some olive oil and some dill. Add some chopped spinach and chickpeas. Serve over spaghetti, drizzle with lemon juice to taste, top with parmesan cheese if desired. It takes about as long as it does to boil your pasta, and it’s delicious.

Breakfast burrito: Tortilla, chicken, scrabled eggs, cheese, taco sauce.
Dinner burrito: Tortilla, hamburger, beans (black or refried), cheese, taco sauce.

Today I had steak sandwiches. Bun (oat bread in this case), sandwich steak, swiss cheese, steak sauce (A1 bold today).

Fresh or defrosted salmon filet. Microwave/pan saute until done. Season with whatever you like: lemon, butter, garlic salt, dill, etc. Optional: before cooking, marinate in soy sauce for 1 hour.

I’m going to post about tomatoes again, just because I’m craving them now.

Slice good tomatoes. Drizzle with olive oil and vinegar. Season with salt and maybe Italian herbs. Or just drizzle with Italian salad dressing. Chill. Eat.

Chill good tomatoes. Slice. Salt. Drizzle with ranch dressing. Eat.

Dammit, I wish I could grow things.

Oh yeah. Potatoes and cream of some kind just work so well together - the best soup I’ve ever had was a potato dill cream soup.

Brick o’cream cheese coated with jalapeno jelly. Spread on crackers.

Sandwich with your favorite bread, sliced rare roast beef, sliced tomato, crumbled gorgonzola or bleu cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette (instead of mayo on the bread), grilled.

Mmmm…lately, I’ve been all about the croque monsieur.

One slice of good bread (I’m using sourdough, but French or Italian would be nice), toasted.
Spread with dijon mustard.
Top with a slice or two of ham.
Top with shredded Gruyere cheese.
Broil 'til melty and toasty.

So good.

A grilled peanut butter. Exactly the same thing as a grilled cheese, but in place of cheese, you use peanut butter.

Toss a pound and a half of pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Dump in a jar of barbecue sauce and a can of beer. Put the slow cooker on low when you leave for work in the morning, and it’ll be done shortly after you get home. Put it on good rolls, and you’ve got dinner for the week.

I have two.

Salmon, preferably wild. Put some olive oil in a hot pan (preferably cast iron, but I just use a normal skillet). Season with salt, pepper, and dill. Medium-high heat. Four minutes on the non-skinned side, and then on the skin side until done. Heavenly if you time it right.

Also, take raw chicken tender pieces. Marinade in a mixture of lemon juice, honey, olive oil, and fresh rosemary for about 2-3 hours. Prepare in foreman grill. Serve on good bread with a little bit of mayo and havarti cheese.
