Whenever I see a contest like this ($ exaggerated), I like to enter and write down something witty in the hope of winning. Alas, I never do. I was wondering if there is a resource somewhere on the internet that gives examples of winning entries to similar competitionsas like this. ie, “In X words or less…” competitions.
Hi, dippy.
Hey.
Cool, I get to talk about this same book in two different threads on the same day!
This type of contest used to be much more common. I just read a book about a woman who was really good at winning these back in the 1950s and 60s. She and other frequent entrants had it all figured out, such as which judging companies preferred puns and wit, which ones tended to go for alliteration, etc. The books an interesting read, even though I’ll bet most of the advice she followed wouldn’t apply to day (The book is “The Prize Winner of Definace Ohio.”)
Anyway, reading about the “contest clubs” that sprang up everywhere during that period convinces me that you’re right, there is surely some internet site that gives hints on how to up your chances.
Oh, wait, you wanted am actual URL instead of me waxing poetic about unhelpful stuff? Sorry. Cranky’s much better at just blab blab blabbing.
If you DO find a link… let me know.
Wow, the nicest thing manhattan ever called me was “jerk.”
Cheers, lucwarm.
And KneadtoKnow, me and manny go WAAAAYYYY back.
