A rather out-of-the-ordinary episode (especially since there was no B-plot), but I liked it. The idea that a Bridge to Terabithia style escape-from-reality is a sign of insanity rather than creativity is typical Simpsons (and probably what most parents would think this day and age.) Even though they apparently hate their name (which a fan came up with), having Fall Out Boy do the theme is a clever idea, given the name’s origin.
Juliet was voiced by Emily Blunt. Juliet’s father was voiced by one of the regulars- the type of voice is familiar, but I can’t place it. Either Shearer or Azaria.
I actually felt a little uneasy that they were doing Heavenly Creatures. My girlfriend and I looked at each other like: “WTF?” and wondered if they were going to end up trying to hit Marge with a brick or something.
I’ll post more when I watch it again, but I thought this was a good story that was didn’t have enough jokes. The biggest laughs came at the very end, with Lisa admitting Juliet was crazy and Homer making one or two mean comments.
Glad to see them riffing on movies. They used to riff on two or three movies every week, then they got away from it. Part of the fun of the Simpsons for me used to be catching the movie references.
I’ve been skipping The Simpsons this season but decided to try again. It looks like I didn’t miss much.
The story was lame and unfunny. Riffing on Bridge to Terabathis is taking a very weak comic idea and running it into the ground. It was almost amusing in the beginning, but became less and less so as the episode went on. A throwaway, perhaps, but an entire plot? Never.
About the only amusing moment was the “I’m Bart Simpson’s mom” bit. The rest just dragged.
I’ve defended The Simpsons for years, but this was indefensible.
