Simpsons 1/25: "Lisa the Drama Queen"

KABF22 Written by Brian Kelley

A rather out-of-the-ordinary episode (especially since there was no B-plot), but I liked it. The idea that a Bridge to Terabithia style escape-from-reality is a sign of insanity rather than creativity is typical Simpsons (and probably what most parents would think this day and age.) Even though they apparently hate their name (which a fan came up with), having Fall Out Boy do the theme is a clever idea, given the name’s origin.

Who did the voice of Juliet and her father? My DVR cut off the credits.

Juliet was voiced by Emily Blunt. Juliet’s father was voiced by one of the regulars- the type of voice is familiar, but I can’t place it. Either Shearer or Azaria.

They seemed to be doing a riff on Heavenly Creatures with maybe some Bridge to Terabithia thrown in.

Damn it. I didn’t realize there was a new episode on tonight and watched the NGC documentary on Air Force One instead :smack:.

Well, there’s always Hulu. If I got NGC, I’d probably watch about Air Force One as well.

Thank you for the Heavenly Creatures part. I knew parts of the plot seemed familiar.

I actually felt a little uneasy that they were doing Heavenly Creatures. My girlfriend and I looked at each other like: “WTF?” and wondered if they were going to end up trying to hit Marge with a brick or something.

I’ll post more when I watch it again, but I thought this was a good story that was didn’t have enough jokes. The biggest laughs came at the very end, with Lisa admitting Juliet was crazy and Homer making one or two mean comments.

The only part I enjoyed was the bullies, who never fail to amuse.

Somebody remind me of their names: Bald kid is Kearney, kid with hat is Jimbo Jones, and the third one is ______________?

Dolph: Dolph. Dolph! DOLPH!!

(Dolph wanders off grumbling about how he gets no regard.)

Glad to see them riffing on movies. They used to riff on two or three movies every week, then they got away from it. Part of the fun of the Simpsons for me used to be catching the movie references.

Not really all that good.

I’ve been skipping The Simpsons this season but decided to try again. It looks like I didn’t miss much.

The story was lame and unfunny. Riffing on Bridge to Terabathis is taking a very weak comic idea and running it into the ground. It was almost amusing in the beginning, but became less and less so as the episode went on. A throwaway, perhaps, but an entire plot? Never.

About the only amusing moment was the “I’m Bart Simpson’s mom” bit. The rest just dragged.

I’ve defended The Simpsons for years, but this was indefensible.
