I liked the part where Bart bragged to Willie about his girlfreind then Willie told him about his Swedish model girlfreind. Of course we all thought he was lying, but there she was. I like to see Willie get something nice.
So you like to see your Willy being treated nicely?
So do I.
I like to see my Willy made happy with Swedish supermodel, yes.
This is at least the second, maybe the third “anti-psychiatric drugs” episode they’ve had—(the Bart/Ritalin one and ISTR one with Homer). And their message is so vastly stoopid: “Lisa is suffering from depression (or some variant of it), the solution isn’t to ‘drug’ her, it’s for her to just get over it?” (same with the Bart/Ritalin ep) Is someone on their staff a $cientologist or what?
That said, I thought the “happy face world” Lisa saw was hysterical–and the “kiss the fan” bit with Maggie and the dog was laugh-out-loud funny. Bart with his girlfriend was a huge “Meh” for me. The best part of it was Nelson’s dating advice, Willy’s Sveedish sooper-model and the ice-skating bit at the end.
Yeah, with all the anti-psychiatric drug eps, I’m beginning to wonder if Nancy Cartwright isn’t the only Scientologist on board! Not that you have to be anti-all drugs to be against the over-medication of kids, of course, but enough already. That plot had no resolution as far as I can recall. Once Marge tossed out the pills, was Lisa’s plot even addressed again, aside from Lisa’s “if my adventure taught me anything…” line? (BTW, it seems atypically irresponsible and careless of Marge to throw un-bottled pills in an open trash can with a dog and a baby crawling around!) The smiley faces were hilarious, though. I just wish the story surrounding them had a bit more purpose to it.
The Bart/Jenny plot was weak as well. It was like a smash-up of the first part of “Bart’s Girlfriend” and, uh, the one with Ranier Wolfcastle’s daughter. Also, Jenny’s design kinda creeped me out. I don’t know why. She looked old to me – and I know she was supposed to be a year older than Bart, but I don’t mean that. Her features seemed more like an adult character’s head on a kid character’s body.
There were some laughs, and I think Nancy’s performance was quite good, especially the scene where Bart sobs on Marge’s lap.
I’ve enjoyed this season quite a lot, BTW, so I’m not a member of the “all new episodes suck” brigade. But for me, this was a bit of a dud. Still, all in all, s20 is on the plus side, so yay.
I wonder if the voice had something to do with it. This isn’t the first time they’ve had a guest actress playing a girl character by using (what sounds to me like) her normal, adult-sounding voice.
It was good for a Bart episode, and there was nothing particularly bad about it (like the fish-flop a few weeks ago.) These combined, I give it a B.
Hmmm. No, I don’t think it was her voice; for me it was definitely her design. Looking at this picture of Jenny, I think it might be her eyebrows/eye creases (not sure which they’re supposed to be) – the lines above her eyes. Most characters don’t have brows, excepting the Van Houtens and perhaps a few others I don’t remember. For some reason the line makes her look older, almost as if it’s a wrinkle. Her haircut was oddly modern and fashionable for the Simpsons, too. Even with guest stars, usually the designs aren’t this detailed except when the star is playing him/herself.
I dunno, it just bugged me the whole episode. If a one-off character can be off-model, that’s what it seemed to me.
