Simpsons 9/11/05

It’s a deal then.

I thought it was pretty funny. A good Homer episode.

“Believe me. . .most of the time I’d be right there with you guys, and I’d probably be the one who took it too far. . .”

I thought the visual of ramming the manatees was funny. I thought eating the manatees was funny.

I always enjoy it when Homer is betting on football, and the scene with the mob hammering his hand was funny, “I thought you were the GAY mafia.” Nothing wrong with the porno shoot (“snuggle films”) – some nice Lenny & Carl there.

The final car wash scene tickled me, too.

I liked how Homer was waving a “My Team” pennant while rooting for the Denver Broncos. I’m assuming it was a reference to the episode where the friendly supervillain played by Albert Brooks gave the team to Homer as a gift.

Anybody besides me have a craving for Dimwillie’s?

I missed a good portion of it and therefore missed the plot outline. I gathered that Marge ran away again because Homer was being dumb. I was bored by the manatees and caught the phone call home to Homer which left me with one jewel, “Marge, where do we keep the socks that don’t smell like feet?” I decided that my wife needs more Homerisms from me.

My 4 year old son then wandered in after being put to bed. He spoke to me for a moment and realized that a cartoon was on and his attention was diverted to the TV…just in time to see Homer puke. Sweet dreams kiddo…

A pretty typical 21st Century episode of the Simpsons.

A few funny moments surrounded by a rehash of several episodes of the past.

My good moments:

  • The above mentioned “I’m the guy who takes it too far.”

  • Lasagna and Caesar’s salad.

  • The off-brand food franchise bit.

How much recycled material was in this episode?
I count:
“We don’t have an outhouse”
“I’ve never seen mom so mad”
betting on football had a whole episode about it.

Does this show still have writers?

Yeah, that was the only part that made laugh too. After that I started flipping channels 'cause it was so boring. Feh…

I just found out that the stupid title of the episode was “Bonfire of the Manatees.”

Well, Christ. No wonder. Suddenly it seems almost like a brilliant show stuck with a horrible, horrible premise.

I agree it was a very weak episode.

I also thought eating the manatee was pretty funny. “What am I going to do, bury him him at Arlington?”

Berke Breathed already made the “Bonfire of the Manatees” joke decades ago in Bloom County.

The ending was really funny, rest of the show. I will forget by … … … now

It’s getting so that I’d much rather watch the re-runs than the new shows. Halloween is coming up, and it better be a slam-dunk show.

I liked “Fahrenheit Nine on One”

Lenny: I’ll be the Key Grip!
Carl: And I’ll perform in the sex scene!

I don’t catch a lot of the new Simpsons episodes (work schedule and all), but I’m aware of how much people bitch about how this show sucks these days.

Now I know why.

Horrid.

Two flukes down.

GRONK!

Yeah, why didn’t Homer listen to Lisa, considering she can really pick em? For that matter, why didn’t they start gambling on football every season?

Most of the time when people bash recent Simpsons episodes, they are wrong.

But this episode was VERY meh.

Didn’t Lisa have to stop helping Homer pick teams because she started believing that Homer was only using her for the picks?

I chuckled at Marge’s line when she was leaving – “And today’s the last day to eat the yogurt!”

But yeah, it sure felt recycled.

It takes a lot to take the humor out of manatees, but they did it. A few good lines, and I liked Bart in the cage (and would like to know why he was let out and where the baby was) but meh.
