One can only imagine the brainstorming session that went into this episode.
I’m pretty sure it started out with “let’s create an episode that leaves everyone in the entire nation with a Comic Book Guy reaction of ‘worst episode ever!’” and just went downhill from there.
I mean…
seriously.
The humanity.
Won’t somebody think of the children?
I thought it was a pretty good episode. It had a decent song, Milhouse’s merry-go-round stunt was excellent, Marge flashed the cops (who, incidentally, never negotiate with elephants) and Lisa learned a lesson. What more could you ask for?
Tonight was officially the day the the show “jumped the shark”!
It just seemed so incredibly witless and tired. Everything from the uninspired “batman” parody, (Havent we seen this before?), to the rather dull musical number, to the 1-dimensional plot of Marge’s unexpected boobjob and Milhouse puking on the flag!
Wasn’t this once a show of great satire and irony?
To be honest, had they actually shown the “puking” incident, i would have at least been able to give it credit for really pushing the boundaries…
Bonus points off for the lame Three Stooges/Ex-Presidents business.
This series needs to end. It’s officially beyond recovery after this weeks episode. The only way I can rationalize this is that all the writers want to get fired.
No, Diogenes, I cannot say that about tonight’s episode.
I’ll be honest, there were a few good parts. Adam West’s cameo (his second for the series), the idea of Stampy (but not that whole bit), and the parent protestors. All OK. It didn’t save the episode, but it was OK.
Tonight as a whole was terrible. I truly felt sorry that the writers had to resort to boob jokes to fill up 15 minutes of air time.
It wasn’t funny.
It wasn’t funny in a perverse way.
It wasn’t funny in a “we’re trying not to be funny so you can laugh at the irony” way.
The entire concept just isn’t all that humorous to begin with and the jokes never strove for anything more than mediocrity.
I mean, I hate to sound like the Comic Book Guy here but I have to say that this is truly the worst episode I have ever watched. So no, it was not better than 99% of the rest of the crap on the networks. Not tonight anyway.
Wow, you guys have short memories. I can think of about 1/2 dozen other episodes that deserve the title of Worst. Episode. Ever.
How about when Homer was Burns’ monkey and did humiliating things with a Panda? Tht was pretty bad.
The more I think I about it, I’d even go as far as to say all of season 10 falls under the category of Worst. Episode. Ever.
People…WAKE UP…the show hasn’t been funny for at least six years now! Yeah, there have been occassional “heh-heh” moments here & there…but it ran out of juice years ago.
The only reason you think this episode is bad, is because you’re comparing it to mediocre episodes from the last few years. Not much to compare it to, unfortunately. The only consolation for an episode like this, is that hopefully ratings will start to drop & FOX will put it out of it’s sad, pitiful misery…
The Simpsons often has very topical humor. What makes them think they can get away with a tired joke about a tired subject from years ago without their entire viewship collectively rolling their eyes.
They did it this week with the terribly unfunny “Who Let the Dogs Out,” parody, as Smeghead mentions, and they did it last week with a pitiful nod to The Blair Witch Project. It’s almost like they still have jokes left over from season 10 that they’ve been unsuccessful at fitting in to shows before now.
As for jabs at Jackass, they’ve done that before. I remember an episode last season in which Millhouse says “All those warnings just made me want to do it more!,” or something to that effect. Not that you can’t make fun of the same show twice, but damn, it just seems like everything in this episode was recycled!
The only pleasant surprise was seeing the realtor Cookie “Stay away from the West Side!” Kwan make a reappearance. The surprise would have been more pleasant if she had actually said something funny, though. But then, I could say that for every character in tonight’s train wreck.
