I thought the “Who Let the Dog Out” parody was actually a dig at Radio Disney - taking awful songs and making them “kid friendly,” thus rendering them both awful and bland.
Marge: Who left the Milk out? (Yuk!) Dad left the milk out! (Yuk!)
Maggie: (plugging her ears with pacifiers)
Well, since I’m not a monster Simpsons fan and I just like to catch an episode every now and then, I can safely not give a fig what you all say and admit I thought it was pretty funny.
The only thing that really bothered me was what jjtm brought up—why didn’t Dr. Nick do Marge’s botched surgery? He was (silently) in the restaurant scene . . . Now I am worried about Dr. Nick . . . You don’t think Dr. Hibbert has it in for him? I mean, Springfield already lost Dr. Marv Monroe . . .
If you don’t like it-- watch “King of the Hill” :shudder:
Also for the people who either posted the “worst. episode. ever.” or the even worse “jump the shark” cliches there is a nice Pit thread on cliches you should read.
Any episode with Stampy *and * a monkey cannot be too bad.
In a perverse kind of way this episode was worse than the hideously bad episodes of the past few seasons. Those episodes sucked incredibly but at least they had a kind of energy from rapidly moving from one shot at humor to another. Rarely successful humor but at least they were trying. This episode, on the other hand, just dragged and dragged and dragged. Even the attempts at humor were just lacking. It’s like the pacing problems from the other two episodes this season except the humor was completely gone.
BTW, I was kind of surprised that was Burt Ward doing the Robin voice. I heard an interview with him maybe five or six years ago and his voice was still recognizable as Robin but I didn’t realize it was him until the credits.
I fail to see the reason for the complaints. The episode was top-notch, the best so far this season.
Great moments: The Batman parody.
“The Keds are All Right.”
Lisa’s “spontaneous” reaction.
Stampy
The entire shoe trade show.
Krusty’s “responsible” kid show.
“This is the longest I’ve spent not looking at Lenny.”
The Disney Radio dig.
Smither’s reaction to Burn’s reaction to Marge.
How about “won the elephant” “got the implants” “jumped the gorge- almost” “killed the wife with a t-shirt gun” “Who-huddle” or something actually Simpson related.
Don’t make me come give you the “dreaded Rear Admiral”!
It wan’t a really, truly, awful, episode like the Mel Gibson or Shari Bobbins ones.
All it did was kill 30 minutes of time “for those who liked it better dead.” It’s in the same class of wasted episodes like the Burns in love episode of a year ago.
The Batman segment went on forever. The breast jokes weren’t funny. And a lot of not funny jokes is pathetic.
I saw the “Mogumbo” thing immediately. “Okay, Krusty’s going to forget the word, see Marge, utter ‘Holy Mogumbos’, etc.” Predictibility is not a good thing.
The writers who came up with this episode need to be fired and banned from working in TV again.
It might explain a little to note that this episode was originally part of last season, but for some reason they held on to it and aired it as part of this season. It was on the original list of episodes for last season.
So for those who hated it, there is still hope for this season.
Sometimes my mom and I watch TV together over the phone (cells+no long distance = really pathetic uses of the privilege). Well, we were watching the Simspons last night. She lives in metro Cleveland area and I live in metro Boston. Now.
The show she was watching had narration on it. Such as, “Later that night Bart and Milhouse…” or whatever. There was a running narration basically saying what was going on. I certainly didn’t have it on the episode I watched, but I could hear it over the phone!
Did anyone else experience this, or know what the hell it was about?
Also, I did think it was funny. Marge not being able to open the cupboard or pick up Maggie cracked me up. I’m laughing just thinking about it.
With a long-running show such as this, it’s easy for the carping nay-sayers to compare a new episode with some classic ROTF episodes and say, “Neener, neener, jumped the shaaaark!” The truth is, every season had some bum-draggers, and you’ve forgotten them. This episode had some high spots, even if you didn’t like the breast jokes (and the persistent striving to avoid saying breasts.) Most of the high spots have already been mentioned.
The Dogs Out gag in Marge’s car was trumped by the reprise over the credits “Who let the jugs out?” (guest voices-- The Baha Men)
I liked how the animators drew Marge’s boobs. They looked awfully succulent and I was a little hypnotized by them. I also liked the lobster ogling Marge from the fishtank. It wasn’t one of the funniest or smartest episodes I’ve seen, but it kept me entertained for a half-hour.
