That’s definitely a kind of joke The Simpsons was doing before Family Guy even existed.
I know. But I think since it’s not that funny on its own, it’s much more amusing if you know why they went after him there.

The graveyard scene with Dr. Nick was both very funny and extremely disturbing. “I’m Dr. Octopus.”
Cite?
And there was a segment at a Stamp Museum?!?!?
:cue overhead camera:
“NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Given But how would they end the show? Blow up Springfield?
If that isn’t a promising idea for a new thread, I’ve never heard one. Care to do the honors?
I always thought the show should end with Homer and Marge waking up and discovering they are still on the Tracey Ullman Show.
Here’s one, from May 2004: Simpsons Series Finale
Here’s another, from '04, with links to even older ones: Why won’t the Simpsons end with dignity?
You may be right. I guess I just noticed it more now that I’ve been watching Family Guy.
I still don’t like Homer swearing, though. AFAIK, the harshest curse he’s uttered has been “Jerkass”. I could be wrong (again).
Screw ending, gracefully or otherwise; I want them to break Meet the Press’s record for years on the air. (And yes, I realize that Meet the Press would have to go off the air at some point for that to happen, but hey, as long as The Simpsons keep being made, hope lives on.)
I saw Simpsons producer Mike Reiss speak last November at my alma mater, and of course, some of the more hard-core fanboys talked to him for a while afterward over snacks and autographs. I wish I could give you quotes. Remember the recent episode where Stan Lee guest starred? “I am Furious Yellow?” He said that part was originally written for Lucas, who had volunteered to do a guest spot. But he pulled out and it was rewritten for Lee. When Reiss told this story, I laughed and said something to the effect of “and then you savaged him in another episode…” His response to me indicated that it was revenge on the show’s part.
He screamed the F-word in the first part of Who Shot Mr. Burns after he realizes Mr. Burns was unable to remember his name on a thank-you card. (We could hear him inhale “Ffff…” The rest was drowned out by a church organ.)
Flanders: “Dear Lord! That’s the loudest profanity I’ve ever heard!”
SNPP.com says you’re wrong. There’s another new one next Sunday at 8 p.m. Eastern, then they’re off until November.
I was going by Epguides.com. That sight shows this, too, so I was right at the time.
This is going to be awful. For the new 9/25 show from the SNPP upcoming episodes page (contains title and plot description):
8:00 • Milhouse of Sand and Fog (GABF19)
Now here’s an idea for a party: all parents are invited to bring their children to the Simpson house so they can catch chicken pox now from Maggie
Egad, ripping off a recent South Park! (Which itself wasn’t all that original.)
I guess SP won’t have to worry about “The Simpsons did it.” syndrome anymore.
I didn’t know South Park had done an episode like that. Shades of the Great Brain! (And other things too I’m sure.)
