After the episode where Bart was going to jump it, and of course the flashbacks to that episode, was Springfield Gorge ever mentioned again? Was that maybe where they dumped the Homer-clones in the last Halloween episode?
It has been mentioned, but I’m not quite sure when…not much more than in passing, such as Bart: “Hey, Milhouse, wanna go to Springfield Gorge?” and such. I think the children may have had a field trip either to the Gorge or past it…

Isn’t that what Marge and Ruth Powers almost drove into in the Thelma and Louise episode? (Stickin’ together’s what good waffles do)
That’s right. That’s also that same episode that Cheif Clancy Wiggums and Homer go off–after Marge and Ruth pull aside, isn’t it?

I don’t think that was the Gorge … I believe it was Springfield Chasm.
Can we assume chasm and gorge are interchangable nomenclatures for the same sort of hole in the ground?
~Ferry
If the word is a part of a proper name for a geological formation, then they’d be two different holes.
And it’s clearly not the same location. The hole they drove into was in the middle of a desert, for example, while Springfield Gorge was surrounded by forest.
I don’t think it’s been mentioned again, but on the Simpsons that’s nothing to get worked up about. How many other major things in Springfield do they visit and we never see again?
I’m not staying up nights about it.
Fair enough. ::nods::

Well, when they went on the team-building expedition and lost their food, beer, and nearly their lives to the wolves, was that in a properly-named hole in the ground?
According to A City Profile: Springfield NT, in Brother From the Same Planet “The fight continues through an antiques shop, into Springfield Gorge, back up again, and finally ends back on the streets of downtown Springfield.”
Also, in the Radioactive Man episode: “We need a city that has a nuclear reactor, and a gorge, and can guarantee us the full cooperation of city officials.”
Maybe the gorge was completely filled by the collapse of the Muderhorn which mysteriosly disappeared after a single episode.
That actually made a whole lot of sense, Tapioca Dextrin!!

The Simpsons and Springfield specifically is not supposed to make sense. They add and take away stuff as necessary for whatever new object they want to satire; the Muderhorn, corporate sponsorship, Springfield Gorge, extreme sports. It’s all in good fun, lads. Don’t get your panties too much in a bunch
Homer and Chief Wiggum drove into the ‘Grand’ Chasm, so I assume the Springfield Gorge is different. Also, the Chasm was being filled with compost, although mention of the Gorge predates the Chasm, I assume the compost has been deposited there for quite a while.
They also had this years Halloween episode where all of Homer’s clones end up falling into what may be Springfield Gorge…
There was also the one were Springfield was going to be hit by a meteor and the rocket they launch to destroy it falls back and destroys the only bridge out of town instead! Which means maybe it spanned the gorge, chasm etc.
Homer and Wiggum went off the cliff into the Grand Chasm, not the Springfield Chasm. God, I feel like such a nerd pointing this out. Wait a minute… I am a nerd. That’s okay, then.
Thank you, Larry Mudd! I stand corrected.
