7G03-HOMER’S ODYSSEY
by Jay Kogen and Wally Wolodarsky. Director: Wes Archer
Introductions: Otto, various students, Smithers, Blinky, I. P. Freely…I mean, Bart’s prank calls to Moe, Chief Wiggum.
Notable Quotable:
Homer: “Beer. Now there’s a temporary solution.”
This is a strange episode, to say the least. Homer attempting suicide? I don’t think he’d do that anymore. And there isn’t really that much of a stable plot. Although this is where he got promoted to safety inspector.
Smithers. Skin. We know. Apparently, one of the painters wanted to add diversity and did random skin colors. Smithers was one of them. Just forget about it, they said. We didn’t. I still like one person’s explanation-just imagine he went to the Caribbean and got a suntan. (Sherri and Terri’s father appears to be African-American as well.)
One of the twins is only a floating head when talking to Bart about his dad.
The “Dip” gag is kind of funny. I guess Homer knows in a way he’s not too bright.
The background characters during Homer’s speech are hilarious. They were still working out, I guess. One has a really fat head, and another looks like he’s dressed up as a Ninja Turtle.
You know what to do. Watch if you can, discuss.
NEXT TIME: Look for discussion of “There’s No Disgrace Like Home” on or around Spetember 17.
