I was watching the Simpsons (ep. 9f18 - Streetcar Named Marge) and there would appear to be a Hitchcock reference I don’t get. Maggie had been placed in a strict day care and her pacifier had been taken away. Anyway, later on Homer goes to pick her up and is freaked out when he walks in the room and all the babies are sitting there sucking away just sitting there. As he walks into the room the only sounds are his heels hitting the floor and the babies sucking. So he gets Maggie and as they leave Al walks by.
I hope you know what I’m talking about and even better can tell what the reference is to.
This sounds a little like the end of “The Birds,” where the people leave the house and have to walk past a lot of birds which are just sitting around looking menacing. They get in the car and drive off and the movie ends there.
Indeed the scene was a takeoff on the famous ending to “The Birds.” That same episode also had a takeoff on “The Great Escape” beating out “Chicken Run” to the joke.
