Simpsons May 2 ("To Surveil with Love")

Since nobody else started a thread about yesterday’s episode, I’ll bite. I enjoyed the episode, although the blond Lisa subplot wasn’t all that entertaining. I liked how Flanders called out Bart everytime his buttocks came back into the camera’s range. “Buttock…Keister…Rump…” The highlight, however, was the opening credit sequence that had the Simpsons lip syncing “Tik Tok” by Kesha. That song is awesome.

I can’t believe I didn’t recognize Eddie Izzard’s voice in this one, but I thought he fit in well. I liked the Dark Knight reference a lot. I couldn’t help feeling this one would have been more current a few years ago… then again given what went on in the city this weekend maybe I’m wrong. I think the funniest thing in the episode was the Sesame Street gay bar, or Bart’s line about evil blond guys. It’s true the Lisa subplot didn’t really go anywhere. Good episode overall.

We didn’t do a thread about the episode last week (“The Squirt and the Whale”) so I’m going to hijack this one to say I thought it was the best episode in ages. Very funny, especially at the beginning, with beautiful art and a story I got completely wrapped up in. Like Groundskeeper Willie once said, “I din’a cry when they hung me own father for stealin’ a pig, but…”

I thought the intro was great!

The intro was great, and I audibly laughed a lot throughout the episode, but I think it kinda died at the end. I have yet to see a (especially recent) Simpsons where they don’t flush the plot out for 25 minutes, then just BS an ending for 5 and call it a day. Comparing Groening shows apples to apples, this is something I felt Futurama almost always did very well (not counting the last movie).

As for last week I was bored to tears. Barely laughed and couldn’t get into the episode.

Again…the intro was hilariously cool…any chance it’s online?

Here you go.

What is the name of the music used over the closing credits on this episode?

Get Ready for This

Hijacking this back to “The Squirt and the Whale,” I enjoyed the song over the closing credits, “La Mer,” by Charles Trennet. It is very beautiful in the original French. The English song “Beyond the Sea” is nothing like it, having only the melody in common. The English lyrics are completely different, not even being a translation of the French lyrics. It was wonderful to hear.

Boy that was great.

The way the pair the lyrics with what’s happening on screen (When marge does “tik tok” and Homer complains that the “party just startin now (oh oh oh woah oh!)”

Well, if I didn’t dislike Ke$ha before…

I thought it was HILARIOUS that they harkened back roughly 15 years for the Prince Charles line. “My cat’s breath smells like cat food.” I thought it as soon as she compared him to Wiggum and he was holding a cat, but I was still surprised that they went there.

It’s weird when a show famous for pop references gets so old, it can quote ITSELF as a pop reference.

The Ke$ha thing was part of a silly music-related Fox promotion, but I’ll be damned if it didn’t work, what with the animation being tied to the lyrics and all.

As for the episode itself, it was rather entertaining and very funny- and given what happened in New York this week, a wonderful coincidence in airing.

What did you think of the previous episode, mobo85?

Worst…Intro…Ever!
I frelling HATE that stupid teenybopper “instant music, just add water” crap, the ep itself was okay, but I hope this episode’s intro was simply a one-off abomination

Question about Moe Letter Blues, May 9:

In the scene where Homer recalls that Apu’s wife and child spent some time at Moe’s, a Lady Gaga song plays in the background, and Marge drags Homer out of the bar. Callback to the Tik Tok intro from last week?

So last week The Simpsons had an episode with a car bomb, and this week a ferry boat hitting a pier.

This is both too coincidental and too creepy for words.
